Job description

Security Shift Supervisor - Brooklyn (Sackett)

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for performing work involving a variety of specialized assignments and security systems in a 200+ bed men’s homeless shelter. The Shift Supervisor reports to the Security Manager. Proof of COVID-19 vaccine is required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Train new security/residential aide employees in all aspects of the facility.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to SSO/residential aides, drivers, and kitchen staff during assigned shifts.
  • Monitor access control and ensure effective use of the magnetometer and x-ray machine.
  • Respond to incidents and utilize crisis management to ensure the safety of staff and clients.
  • Conduct rounds throughout the facility and external premises to prevent, detect, deter, and report hazardous situations, trespassers, and illegal activities.
  • Respond to emergencies throughout the building, providing guidance and support to staff and subordinates.
  • Complete monthly security reports.
  • Create and disseminate incident reports as appropriate.
  • Document in CARES and other Westhab protocols.
  • Facilitate processes when EMS and NYPD are on site.
  • Conduct daily inspections of security and fire safety systems.
  • Fulfill all responsibilities of a Client Care Monitor in their absence.
  • Adjust staff schedules due to sick calls and staff shortages.
  • Maintain the safety and security of clients and staff.
  • Provide crisis intervention when needed.
  • Assist the Security Manager in preparing and executing fire drills.
  • Review log book entries, incident reports, and other administrative responsibilities for accuracy.
  • Attend and conduct meetings and trainings as needed.
  • Check inventory of all assigned equipment daily and investigate discrepancies.
  • Perform all related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates Degree in social services, criminology, or a related field; or equivalent experience required. A valid NYS Security Guard License, Fire Guard License, and certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI). Must have a general knowledge of security systems, problem-solving skills, and decision-making abilities based on factual information. Knowledge of video surveillance and fire detection/alarm systems is required. Shift Supervisors must own a vehicle and be familiar with public transportation. A home phone number is mandatory. Flexibility in days and hours of availability is required. Knowledge of shelter operations and familiarity with CARES and DHS shelter protocols is essential.
