Job summary

White Plains Hospital Medical Center in White Plains, NY seeks a Licensed Security Sergeant to oversee Security Officers and daily operations on the Evening shift. Job Summary

The Licensed Security Sergeant provides direct oversight of Security Officers and daily security operations during assigned shifts. The Sergeant serves as the senior on-duty security representative, ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, employees physicians facilities and hospital property this position conducts security patrols and inspections responds to and manages security incidents and emergencies assigns and monitors personnel reviews incident reports and ensures compliance with departmental policies hospital standards regulatory requirements and applicable laws the Sergeant also supports the training, coaching, development and provides performance feedback.

Essential Functions

• Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors policy.

• Patrols all assigned posts and responds to requests for supervisory assistance from Security Officers and other hospital personnel.

• Leads shift operations, monitors protocols, and provides performance feedback to Security Officers.

• Responds to incidents requiring supervisory intervention, assigns personnel as appropriate, ensures proper investigation, and reviews all incident reports for accuracy and completeness prior to the end of the shift.

• Implements and enforces departmental policies, procedures, and directives issued by Security leadership.

• Assumes responsibility for the safety and security of the hospital, its patients, visitors, employees, and property during assigned tours and in the absence of Security management.

• Immediately notify Security leadership of arrests, significant incidents, safety concerns, and unusual occurrences.

• Direct and coordinates emergency response activities in accordance with hospital fire, disaster, bomb threat, and emergency management plans until relieved by higher authority.

• Conducts security rounds of hospital buildings, grounds, parking facilities, and restricted areas; inspects doors, windows, and access points to ensure security.

• Assists with disruptive or violent patient situations utilizing approved de-escalation and restraint procedures.

• Supports visitor management, access control, package inspections, and other security-related functions in accordance with hospital policies.

• Develops and maintains shift schedules, assign posts, and ensures appropriate staffing levels are maintained.

• Conducts regular inspections of all security posts and personnel to ensure compliance with departmental standards and operational readiness.

• Attend departmental meetings, training sessions, and hospital committees as required.

• Ensure all security personnel report to duty in proper uniform, equipped and prepared to perform assigned responsibilities.

• Under the direction of the Director of Security and Assistant Director of Security, supervises Security Officers and other assigned personnel, ensuring all post assignments, patrol activities, and operational duties are completed accurately, professionally, and within established timeframes.

• Provides direct oversight of daily security operations and ensures compliance with departmental policies, procedures, hospital standards, and regulatory requirements.

• Identifies, documents, and promptly communicates personnel performance concerns, operational issues, safety risks, and significant incidents to the Director of Security and/or Assistant Director of Security.

• Assists in the coaching, training, development, and performance management of Security Officers to promote accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

• Ensures all Security Department equipment is used appropriately, safely, and in accordance with departmental policies, including but not limited to radios, surveillance systems, cameras, access control systems, emergency equipment, and hospital-owned vehicles.

• Maintains accountability for assigned equipment and promptly reports lost, damaged, malfunctioning, or unauthorized use of departmental assets.

• Conducts periodic inspections of security equipment and vehicles to ensure operational readiness and compliance with departmental standards.

• Serves as the senior on-duty security representative during assigned shifts, providing leadership, guidance, and decision-making support to security personnel and hospital staff.

• Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice, Security Management, Emergency Management, or a related field preferred.

• Valid New York State Security Guard License required.

• Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive security experience, including supervisory or lead responsibilities.

• Healthcare security, hospital, healthcare campus, higher education, law enforcement, corrections, military police, or comparable institutional security experience preferred.

• Leads shift operations, monitors protocols, and provides performance feedback to Security Officers.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, electronic reporting systems, access-control systems, surveillance technology, and other security-related systems.

• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make effective decisions during emergencies, critical incidents, and high-stress situations.

• Knowledge of healthcare security, workplace violence prevention, patient de-escalation, emergency management, and applicable security practices.

• Experience conducting investigations, documenting incidents, preserving information/evidence, and coordinating with law enforcement and other emergency responders.

• BLS certification through the American Heart Association required within 90 days of hire.

• Current NYS Security Guard Registration required.

• BLS certification through the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.

• Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or approved de-escalation training within the probationary period.

• Hospital-approved restraint training within the probationary period.

• Complete 8-hour pre-assignment training, 16-hour OJT within 90 days, and 8-hour annual in-service training, unless an exemption applies.

• A valid driver's license required effective 1/1/2026
