Job summary

University of Rochester is seeking a dedicated Security Guard for our hospital campus in New York. The role focuses on protecting employees, patients, visitors and property by providing a visible deterrence to crime and ensuring controlled access, reporting incidents, and responding to emergencies.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, security or law enforcement experience, PMCS training, and NYS licensure.

Job Summary:

Primary responsibility is to protect and safeguard employees, patients, visitors, and property by providing a visible deterrence to crime.

Job Results & Essential Functions

• Primary station is E.R. Dept.
• Patrols building and grounds of Hospital to prevent fires, theft and vandalism.
• Monitors building access control,camera systems, and other critical building alarm systems regularly and reports any unusual trends, activities, or outages to Director of Facilities and Safety Officer(s).
• Ensures only authorized personnel are admitted onto Hospital premises.
• Escorts visitors, patients, personnel to and from parking areas.
• Assists motorist who become stranded on Hospital property.
• Maintains current information in lost and found logs. Notifies individuals when items reported as missing are located.
• Serves as a member of the Code Team and responds to all other Hospital codes.
• Investigates incidents of unusual circumstances reported by Hospital personnel, visitors, physicians or patients and reports all incidents, verbally or through general incident form, by the end of each shift.
• Maintains CPR, clinical restraint, and NYS Security Guard licensure / training.
• Writes incident reports and documents investigatory steps and results.
• Responds to emergency calls for assistance to control disorderly conduct or combative patients.
• Patrols parking lot areas to detect any irregularities.
• Inspects outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theft of Hospital Property.
• Reports all safety and fire hazards observed on routine patrols and inspections to Safety Officer(s).
• Assists and gives courteous responses to any inquiries made by patients, visitors, or personnel.
• Enforces all Hospital policies/procedures as assigned by Administration and Director of of Facility Operations.
• Liaison with local law enforcement

Position Qualifications

Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in security or law enforcement required. Must successful pass PMCS training.

Licenses and/or Certifications

• Registered as a Security Guard in NYS (preferred) or Completion with 90 days of employment
• Valid NYS Driver's License
