Job summary

The Evansville State Hospital security team within the State of Indiana is seeking a capable security professional to develop and implement procedures securing buildings and grounds, coordinate with law enforcement, and train staff across shifts. You will oversee safety programs, set standards, and drive continuous improvement while supporting the hospital’s mission to protect patients and staff.

The role emphasizes leadership, risk mitigation, and collaboration with multiple agencies.

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to apply new developments in security and safety fields.
  • Specialized knowledge of law enforcement and security principles relating to Homeland Security Law and safety regulations (Infection Control, OSHA, FEMA).
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement procedures for the security of buildings and grounds to meet the needs of the State Operated Facility.
  • Advise on the implementation of rules and regulations pertaining to parking and traffic, including markings and signage.
  • Develop short and long-range training programs for security staff.
  • Report status of security and safety to facility management.
  • Develop and continually review the standard operation of the security and safety program.
  • Develop professional standards for subordinate staff.
  • Review all policies and procedures and provide updates to those policies that refer to safety and security.
  • Provide orientation to new security staff and assist in training for minor plumbing, electrical and other system repairs for temporary safety measures.
  • Provide continued education to the staff regarding their role in the security and safety program.
  • Work with local, state, county, federal and other law enforcement personnel to assure good working relationships.
  • Collaborate with other agencies to recover runaway residents and secure grounds against vandalism and crime.
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are understood.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide feedback, and evaluate performance ensuring quality and deadlines.
  • Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is essential.

Evansville State Hospital is one of the Indiana State Psychiatric Hospitals who are committed to the mission of Hope and Recovery. Residing on 88 acres on the east side of Evansville, Ind., our facility provides medical treatment for chronic mental illness and substance abuse disorders from our dedicated team of psychiatrists and advanced practice professionals. Active Treatment helps our patients achieve their goals directed towards living in the most non-restrictive environment possible.

Our team of professionals assist our patients in the treatment process involving medical staff, nursing, psychology, social work, rehabilitation therapy and our community integration program. Evansville State Hospital continues to maintain accreditation through The Joint Commission as an Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital as well as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services certification as a Psychiatric Medicare/Medicaid Hospital.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Developand implementprocedures for the security of buildings and grounds to meet the needs of the State Operated Facility.

  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
  • Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
