Job description

UPMC Shadyside Hospital is hiring a Security Officer! In this role, you will ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors, staff, and all UPMC properties. Your main duties include:

  • Patrolling UPMC hospitals, buildings, and grounds to prevent criminal activity.
  • Creating a visible security presence and documenting activities.
  • Contacting UPMC Police Officers or other law enforcement if needed.
  • Monitoring security, fire, and environmental alarms.
  • Addressing and resolving issues, disputes, and unusual situations.
  • Providing assistance and customer service to patients, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Documenting incidents and completing reports as required.

The schedule for this position will rotate, including weekends and holidays. Additionally, this role is eligible for a sign-on bonus!

Responsibilities include:

  • Staffing fixed posts to monitor ingress and egress to secured areas.
  • Providing customer service to maintain a safe environment.
  • Inspecting parcels to prevent theft.
  • Responding to and resolving problems and disputes.
  • Maintaining certifications and licenses.
  • Assisting with traffic control and vehicle assistance.
  • Transporting deceased to morgue and releasing bodies.
  • Monitoring alarms and responding as needed.
  • Patrolling to deter criminal activity, documenting activities, and contacting law enforcement.
  • Operating UPMC vehicles per regulations.
  • Conducting patient escorts and stand-by details.
  • Completing mandatory training programs.
  • Reporting incidents and hazards.

Qualifications:

  • High integrity for handling sensitive information.
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication and conflict resolution.
  • Psychological fitness for stress and conflict situations.
  • Physical fitness for crisis response.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Background and criminal record check required.
  • Availability for all shifts.
  • Wearing a bulletproof vest is required.
  • Specific licensure and certifications, including Act 235, CPR/BLS, valid driver’s license, and passing physical standards.
