Job description

At UPMC Presbyterian, our Security Officers are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This is achieved through regular patrols, staffing fixed posts, and responding to and resolving problems and disputes. Customer service is central to this role. Candidates must have a valid and current driver’s license.

Schedules rotate within the department and include weekends and holidays, with shifts varying from daylight to night. This role is eligible for a $1,500 sign-on bonus with a 2-year commitment to UPMC.

Responsibilities:
  1. Handle calls for security assistance appropriately, utilizing strong crisis management and de-escalation skills.
  2. Manage situations involving victims of violence, such as gunshot wounds, stabbings, and physical assaults, including follow-up in the aftermath of violence.
  3. Release bodies from the Morgue and document information in Remains Tracker software.
  4. Respond to air ambulance arrivals, assist with offloading trauma patients and medical equipment, escort flight crews and patients from the helipad to Presbyterian ED, and perform fire suppression on the heliport, including annual Helicopter Safety training.
  5. Manage a high volume of security incident reports, including complex cases.
  6. Handle evidence for criminal proceedings, ensuring proper documentation and preservation, including bullet fragments, rape kits, blood-stained clothes, drugs, and weapons.
  7. Respond to and resolve problems, disputes, and unusual circumstances as needed.
  8. Conduct patient escorts and standby security details.
  9. Report and document incidents, suspicious activities, and hazards.
