The Security Officer position at the UIC School of Law maintains security and safety inside and directly outside the law school buildings. Security officers serve at fixed posts and/or patrol assigned areas performing a variety of protective duties, including enforcing regulations, responding to disturbances, and serving as first responders to assist in emergency and non- emergency situations.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Patrol operations included roving the school grounds in order to deter and report suspicious activity and unsafe conditions. Respond to calls for service and initiate the necessary proper procedure. Initiate emergency protocols during unsafe conditions to restore order. Protect the safety and well-being of campus community members and notify our first responders for service when necessary. Utilize proper communication, de-escalation, and respect all UIC Law School visitors.
  • Proficiently operates computer security systems and platforms; monitors access control, surveillance cameras, emergency notifications, and any other unit communication platforms.
  • Respond to emergency situations; activate emergency protocols, assist with evacuation, and administer first aid. Attend mandatory unit training and maintain updated certifications.
  • Conduct roving patrol operations wearing an assigned uniform, vest, and duty belt.
  • Investigate and respond to suspicious activity and complete supporting documentation.
  • Participates in the development of crime prevention programming and education.
  • Assist unit members with daily operations, procedures, and training.
  • Provides security escorts to students and others upon request.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. High school graduation or equivalent.
  2. Valid Illinois driver's license.
  3. No record of conviction of a felony, or of a crime involving moral turpitude.
  4. Current State of Illinois Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC).
  5. One year (12 months) of security experience in an in institutional or medical setting.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior Law enforcement experience
