Overview

The Security Officer Tactical is a specialized security officer with advanced training in de-escalation techniques, non-lethal defensive systems, defensive tactics, and critical thinking skills. This role primarily serves in the Emergency Department, acting as the first responder to violent and dangerous situations across the facility and campus. The officer acts as the primary liaison with law enforcement during critical incidents, serving as a visual deterrent to crime and violence.

Responsibilities include directing security responses during incidents involving non-patients, patrolling the campus, ensuring the safety of personnel and patients, investigating critical incidents, providing security assistance, and securing doors as needed. The officer may be assigned to any facility as required.

The ideal candidate will be mature, capable of operating independently and within a team, with advanced critical thinking skills and the ability to calmly resolve crises. They must pass the Tactical Officer Certification Course, demonstrating proficiency in critical thinking, de-escalation, non-lethal weapons, and tactical exercises. Physical fitness is essential, with the ability to pass the Cooper Institute Physical Fitness Assessment before and bi-annually to retain employment.

Responsibilities
  1. Patrol: Conducts patrols, reports emergencies, apprehends suspects, escorts visitors, responds to alarms, enforces rules, and reacts to emergencies.
  2. Tactical: Acts as law enforcement liaison, monitors situations, employs de-escalation and tactical skills, assists in restraining disturbed patients, and supports other officers.
  3. Customer Assistance: Maintains relationships with law enforcement and emergency agencies, interacts with staff, visitors, patients, and external agencies.
  4. Documentation: Investigates incidents, maintains logs, and documents fire and disaster responses.
  5. Compliance/Safety: Reports safety incidents, attends training, ensures safe work practices, and complies with regulations and policies.
Qualifications
  1. Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Certification & Licenses: Valid Arizona Driver's License, BLS, IAHSS, AVADE certifications within specified timeframes, Fingerprint Clearance Card, and Taser certification (preferred).
  3. Experience: 3 years law enforcement or military experience or 7 years hospital setting experience; healthcare experience preferred.
