Job description

Security Officer (Starts $19/hr, On Call) - Kenai, AK

The Security Officer provides services for a variety of large and small business clients where health, safety, and security is our #1 priority. This is an environment at the Marathon Refinery in Kenai and surrounding areas with corresponding levels of traffic (employees, visitor, etc.).

Responsibilities

  1. Personally monitors either visually, electronically, or audibly a variety of assigned areas, or grounds by working in a variety of assignments including but not limited to roving inside the facilities, roving in a vehicle, other locations deemed appropriate.
  2. Ensures own actions and those of others observe maximum level of safety and compliance.
  3. Will verbally de-escalate situations to ensure the safety of fellow employees, customers, and clients.
  4. Examines the interior and exterior of the refinery and surrounding areas to determine they are secure.
  5. Reports and records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  6. Warns violators of rule infractions and may apprehend or expel violators.
  7. Notifies on-site individuals of visitors wishing to see them.
  8. Assists in properly responding to a variety of emergencies or disasters in order to preserve life and property, including but not limited to fire safety, active shooter protocol.
  9. May perform routine input or monitoring of safety and life support computer programs.
  10. May issue and record ID badges.
  11. May check heating, lighting, sprinkling, security, ventilation, fire, etc., systems to make sure they are operational.
  12. Notify supervisor if safety and sanitation standards are not being met.
  13. Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit's success also may be assigned.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. At least two (2) years of security, law enforcement, or military experience preferred.
  3. A valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS' vehicle insurance policy.
  4. As per contract requirements, must be 21 years of age.
  5. Must have or receive a valid TWIC card prior to employment.
  6. Must be able to obtain and pay the Alaska Guard License fee of $98.25 prior to beginning work.
  7. Must be able to cooperate and work as part of a team with fellow employees, customers, and clients.
  8. Must be able to make decisions in the moment with little to no supervision.
  9. Must be able to be on your feet for 12 hours per shift for the scheduled rotation.
  10. Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read, and write English.
  11. Must meet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  1. Weather: Indoors and Outdoors, frequently exposed to hot and cold weather conditions.
  2. Noise level: Moderate to Loud.
  3. Description of environment: Environment will vary based on the facility assigned to.
  4. Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently to constantly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift. Must complete a 1 ½ mile walk/run in under 25 minutes, must be able to run 50 yards, must be able to climb a flight of stairs.

Oral Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions; demonstrates group presentation skills; participates in meetings.

Written Communication - Writes incident logs and other reports clearly; able to read and interpret written information.
