Job Summary / Purpose

The Security Officer contributes to the CHI mission and vision by ensuring a safe and secure environment of care at hospital campuses and associated facilities and operations.

  • Conducts initial investigations and appropriate follow-up for security incidents, writing detailed security reports.
  • Performs proactive foot and vehicle patrols across the entire campus, including all floors and buildings.
  • Responds promptly to radio calls for various services such as escorts, property pick-up, disturbances, standbys, and emergencies.
  • De-escalates and maintains control in security situations.
  • Maintains current training, including de-escalation and computer competencies.
  • Undergoes mandatory health screenings and vaccines.
  • Monitors CCTV activities in the security control room as required.
  • Operates access control systems, including granting clearances and locking doors.
  • Maintains professionalism and integrity in all interactions, adhering to dress code standards.
  • Provides assistance and directions to visitors, patients, and staff as needed.
  • Communicates effectively with incoming shifts regarding ongoing situations and assignments, accurately disseminating information.
  • Uses tact, courtesy, sound judgment, and professionalism when interacting with patients, families, physicians, team members, and other staff.
