Job Description

This is an as-needed position located at Lake Forest Hospital. It is non-benefit eligible and does not guarantee a minimum number of hours per week.

The Security Officer I reflects NM's mission, vision, and values, adheres to the Code of Ethics and Compliance Program, and complies with all policies, procedures, and standards.

Under the direction of Security Leadership, this role is responsible for protecting hospital staff, patients, visitors, and property, investigating disturbances, and restraining patients when necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Investigate and quell incidents and disturbances.
  • Complete descriptive reports for supervisory review.
  • Notify city officials and prepare reports as needed.
  • Perform perimeter and internal patrols on foot and mobile to ensure safety and prevent unauthorized access.
  • Investigate hazards, theft, criminal activity, and safety issues.
  • Monitor access control, fire, duress alarms, and security video systems.
  • Control traffic for emergency access, patient transport, and incident management.
  • Secure restricted areas and provide escorts for staff as requested.
  • Transport deceased bodies and release them per policy.
  • Respond to emergency codes following department guidelines.
  • Report activities deviating from standards to management.
  • Enforce hospital policies and maintain a professional, approachable demeanor.
  • Conduct contraband searches and monitor individuals for safety.
  • Oversee staff parking permit compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of IAHSS Basic exam within 90 days of hire, and maintenance of certification
  • Current BLS certification within 9 months
  • Completion of Northwestern Medicine Defensive Tactics in Healthcare within 6 months
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and report-writing skills
  • Physical ability to patrol, respond quickly, lift up to 65 pounds, and push/pull up to 75 pounds
  • Valid driver’s license
Preferred
  • Experience in healthcare security, law enforcement, or military service
