Job summary

The University of Vermont Health Network is seeking a Security Officer to protect staff, patients and the public across our medical campus. The role involves aggressive patrols, crime deterrence, and rapid response to incidents, with ongoing education for staff and patients on safety practices.

Candidates should have a High School Diploma, NYS driver license, clean record, and NYS security credentials where applicable. CPR/BLS preferred; EMT a plus; PMCS training within 30 days.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• New York State Driver's License required; must be insurable.
• Applicant must not have any local, state, federal criminal record.
• New York State Security 8 Hour Pre-assignment Certificate or NYS Security Guard registration preferred.
• Eligible to register as New York State Security officer upon hiring.
• Prior experience working with the general public or in related field preferred.
• CPR/BLS certification preferred; EMT certification a plus.
• Must complete PMCS training within 30 days of employment.
• Personal vehicle for on-the-job transportation required.
• Computer skills preferred.
• Exercise good judgment in emergency situations.
• Read, write well and maintain neat and accurate shift reports/logs.
• Good verbal communication skills.
• Must read, agree to adhere and sign Security Department Code of Ethics.
• Training/competency in attending to special needs/behaviors by age group when care is provided.

Responsibilities

• Protect staff, patients, and the public by patrolling and deterring crime.
• Provide education to staff, patients, and visitors to reduce risk of victimization.
• Investigate inappropriate activity thoroughly and efficiently.
• Assist medical personnel in patient care areas and with family members as needed.
• Be available for variable shifts, rotations, or short-notice emergency response.
