Position Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Director of Security, patrols assigned territory to protect persons and property.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a security officer preferred.
• Certified in First Aid and CPR is a plus.
• Ability to walk for 30-40 minutes per hour during an eight-hour shift.
• Ability to climb up to three flights of stairs at a time.
• Ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions throughout the year.
• Vision correctable to 20/20 required.
• Hearing correctable within a normal range required.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Must possess a good moral character.

Position Duties:

• Tours buildings and property of the university, examining doors, windows, and gates to assure they are secure.
• Inspects premises for such irregularities as signs of intrusion, interruption of utility services, suspicious acts or persons, and fire or safety hazards.
• Inspects fire alarms, fire extinguishers, closed circuit television, and access control systems for signs of tampering.
• Answers alarms, investigates disturbances, and calls appropriate authorities as required by the situation.
• Answers lock-out calls from students or faculty/staff.
• Locks and unlocks doors according to schedule.
• Assists visitors or the general public in problems that may arise on the university campus.
• Writes reports of irregularities and keeps a daily log.
• Maintains confidentiality of security information.
