Job summary

Ochsner Health is seeking a Security Officer to support patient, staff, and visitor safety. This role enforces company safety rules, conducts site inspections, investigates incidents, and participates in emergency drills under supervision.

Applicants should have a high school diploma, 1 year security or related experience, and required certifications (BLS, POST/CPI, etc.). The position requires flexibility, 24/7 availability, and ability to work in a hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • Required - High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: 1 year security, law enforcement, or military.
  • Must have or be eligible for armed law enforcement credentials in Louisiana or Federal agencies.
  • BLS certification from American Heart Association.
  • POST Certification or Military Police equivalent.
  • IAHSS Certification to be obtained within 90 days of hire/promotion.
  • Valid Louisiana driver's license with clean DMV record.

Responsibilities

  • Enforces all safety and security rules, regulations and policies on company property.
  • Conducts routine inspections of on-site and off-site locations.
  • Investigates accidents and incidents and reports all occurrences in a timely manner.
  • Performs safety and security duties as assigned per SOPs.
  • Participates in emergency response and related drills.
  • Maintains required annual certifications and completes training on schedule.
  • Adapts interactions to patient privacy and communication norms.

This job follows established procedures and under the supervision of the shift supervisor, provides security for patients, employees, as assigned and in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. Enforces company policies and procedures and performs assigned duties that ensure the security of patients, guests, and employees in a courteous and professional manner.

Education

Required -High School diploma or equivalent

Work Experience

Required:

  • 1 yearSecurity, law enforcement, or military.
  • Previous experience or is presently, an armed police officer with a Louisiana or Federal Law.
  • Enforcement Agency (reserve status is acceptable) and has had arrest power and been assigned in an active law enforcement capacity.
Certifications

Required:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
  • Completion of Certified Police Officer of Standard Training Policy Academy (state, federal, or military).
  • Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification or Military Police equivalent
  • Valid Louisiana driver's license and clean DMV report
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI), and firearms training
  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Certification to be obtained within 90 days of promotion/hire
  • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of the FTO Program within the first 60 days of employment
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals.
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • This position is considered Team A Essential Personnel and must report for duty in the event of a disaster.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).

  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
