Job Overview:

The RWJBH Security Officer ensures a safe and secure environment for all patients, visitors, and staff with a blend of vigilance and compassionate service. You will be part of a team that represents the organization with a positive attitude in all interactions. The officer balances security protocols with understanding and respect for those in the healthcare setting. This role is central to upholding our commitment to safety, customer service, and supportive care, embodying our mission to compassionately protect and help the people, property, and quality of our health system, together.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid New Jersey Driver's License with eligibility for RWJBH insurance coverage
  • Ability to acquire de-escalation training certification within ninety (90) days of hire

Preferred:

  • At least one (1) year of customer service, security experience, or military service preferred
  • Proficiency in keyboarding/data entry and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Bilingual skills (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, Polish) preferred but not required, depending on facility needs

Scheduling Requirements

  • 10:00 pm - 6:30 am
  • Per Diem

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct patrols and monitor facilities to maintain security, adapting to indoor and outdoor posts as needed
  • Provide professional customer service while vigilantly addressing potential security threats
  • Manage access control systems, perform data entry, and use Microsoft Office for incident reporting and administrative tasks
  • Engage effectively with a diverse population using interpersonal and communication skills
  • Perform weapon screening and enforce safety policies
  • Respond to emergencies and participate in crisis de-escalation using certified techniques
  • Other duties as assigned; responsibilities may change at any time
