Position Summary:
The Security Officer is responsible for protecting the lives and property on the Millstone Campus and contracted facilities within the Jewish Community. The primary function is to be the frontline crime deterrent, whether by vehicle patrol, foot patrol, or stationary post. This position is required to carry a firearm and maintain the necessary licenses. This role is expected to adhere to the Jewish Federation’s mission, vision, and values.
Part-Time Positions will have random shifts and positions and will include nights, weekends, Jewish holidays, and last-minute schedule change requests. Hours worked per pay period will follow Federation policy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Regardless of post or assignment, the essential duties of a CSI Security Officer are:
- Protects life and property.
- Ensure premises and personnel by patrolling property; monitoring surveillance equipment, inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points.
- Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures, warning and requesting departure of trespassers.
- Controls traffic by enforcing traffic control applications.
- Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities, interviewing witnesses and obtaining statements.
- Maintains the environment by monitoring and setting building and equipment controls and controlling access to locked and sensitive areas.
- Maintains organization's stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.
- Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Provides armed first response to criminal threats of violence against people on the Millstone Campus, other designated entities, and at special events.
- Provide additional security at community events.
- Provide a visible presence during arrival and departure times of employees or guests.
Experience and Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: Security Officer
To be employed as a Federation Full-time/Part-time/Per Diem Security Officer, a person must have at minimum:
- Requirements for Armed Security Officer
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Prior work experience as one of the following:
- Corrections Officer with a Sheriff’s Office or State/Federal Correctional Facility
- Commissioned Police Officer (any capacity Federal, State or Local)
- Military police officer as follows:
- U.S. Army Military Police, CID, CI, and USA Civilian Police.
- U.S. Navy Master-at-Arms and USN Civilian Police
- U.S. Coast Guard Boarding Officers, CG Police Officers, CG Security Force Officers, and CGIS Special Agents
- U.S. Air Force Air Police, Security Police, Security Forces, and USAF Civilian Police
- 3+ years of field work as an armed security/public safety experience in the following environments:
- Major Healthcare institution
- Institutions of higher learning
- Public Transportation
- Familiarity with the BEST PRACTICE methods and techniques associated with maintaining security

Firearms:
- Security Officers must obtain and maintain a firearm of the specified model and caliber as designated by the Community Security Director.
- The Officer must maintain the appropriate training and qualification required by the St. Louis County Police Department Security Licensing Division for armed licenses.
- In addition, the officer must be LEOSA (Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act) or have a Concealed Carry Permit from the State of Missouri for the Uniform Exempt portion of the license.
- The Officer may be required to complete additional training as required by the Jewish Federation.
- LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, U.S.C., Section 922(g)(91)). Candidates who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not qualified for this position. Candidates under consideration will be required to certify whether they have ever been convicted of such an offense. False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment (Title 18, U.S.C., Section 1001).
Certificates and Licenses:
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Armed Uniform Exempt Metro Security Officer License from St. Louis County.
- In addition, the Officer will be licensed and certified for all Less than Lethal weapons carried including handcuffing and Baton certifications.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Carrying a firearm and the safety and responsibility that it brings.
- Ability to lift and/or move heavy objects.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, overnight, and special events as needed.
- Ability to change standard shifts as needed/required.
- Ability to be flexible with work schedule and work past normally scheduled hours when events as directed.
- Ability to sit (vehicle) and stand (events) for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in hot, cold, or other inclement weather.
- Ability to work in stressful situations.
