Job summary

The Walt Disney Company (Corporate) in Houston is seeking a part-time Security Officer to protect employees, guests and events. You will join a trained team, conduct perimeter checks, screen access, and respond to incidents at Disney facilities and special happenings.

Required: at least 1 year in security or related fields, strong English communication, team orientation, and the ability to work flexible shifts. A state Security Guard license and reliable attendance are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet visitors, check IDs and provide temporary IDs at entrances.
  • Evaluate and screen audience lines at live events and TV shows.
  • Provide security presence at premieres, performances and parties.
  • Patrol hallways and perimeters to spot safety issues.
  • Complete logbooks accurately and completely.
  • Answer questions from visitors and employees professionally.
  • Use training to diffuse tense situations and assist responders.
  • Respond to medical or fire incidents with local authorities.
  • Control messenger flow and monitor package deliveries.
  • Document incidents using available security technology.
  • Conduct walk-through evaluations at off-site events.

As a Security Officer, you'd be part of a well-trained, cohesive team that provides 24/7 protection for co-workers and guests at our buildings and at special events. Your mission? To protect Disney property and safeguard our people!

Every day as a Security Officer is different! Depending on your shift, on any given day you might:

  • Greet visitors, check company IDs, and provide temporary IDs at building entrances

  • Evaluate and screen the audience line at live TV shows

  • Be a security presence at movie premiers, live performances, events, or private parties

  • Patrol hallways and building perimeters to spot safety issues or irregularities

  • Fill out the logbook precisely and completely

  • Answer questions asked by visitors and employees in a friendly, professional way

  • Use your know-how and training to diffuse a tense situation

  • Respond to medical or fire incidents, and work directly with local first responders

  • Assist private security details brought by celebrities, sports stars, politicians and visiting dignitaries – even the President has been known to stop by

  • Control messenger flow and package delivery

  • Utilize technology to report and document incidents and manage information flow

  • Perform walk-through evaluation at off-site events

Here’s what you will need to be successful in the job:

  • 1 year of corporate security, law enforcement or military experience

  • Excellent communication skills, including fluent written and spoken English, and strong command of basic English grammar

  • Ability to make quick decisions using your training and common sense

  • The knack for talking to people in a friendly way that gets results

  • A "team" orientation and willingness to collaborate

  • Physical ability to perform all aspects of the job and be outside in all weather; and

  • Flexible workdays/hours (this is a "shift work" role) and ability to work some overtime

It would be a plus if you also have these skills:

  • Valid Security Guard license issued by your state

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience working under pressure

  • Ability to take command and diplomatically control difficult situations

Education is important to us, here is what we are looking for:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Associate degree or higher preferred
