Security Officer Night Shift (6:00pm - 6:30am) S/Su/M
Position Summary
Provides security services to ensure order and safety of patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.
Responsibilities
- Escort visitors, employees, and students upon request.
- Patrol all areas of the hospital internally and externally on foot, bicycle, and/or vehicle 24 hours a day in all weather conditions. (Only security officers with a valid driver’s license for operating Orlando Health vehicles can perform motor vehicle patrols.)
- Assist all hospital areas, including sensitive zones, with access as authorized.
- Detect suspicious activities on campus and handle situations appropriately.
- Report criminal activity to supervisors and law enforcement as needed.
- Investigate accidents, search for evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare reports. Respond tactfully and diplomatically to stressful or hostile situations and recommend legal action if necessary.
- Assist medical staff with enforcement of Baker Act (F.S. 394.463) and Marchman Act (F.S. 397.675-397.6775), including use of approved medical restraints per physicians' requests under Florida law.
- Coordinate with law enforcement regarding patient/prisoner intake and hospital stay status. Support the Patient Care Coordinator in managing high-risk or non-publicity patients.
- Report all safety and security violations campus-wide.
- Respond to helicopter flights, ensuring helipad safety and assisting with patient transport as needed.
- Operate and understand security equipment and walk patrols.
Qualifications
Education/Training
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word for report writing.
Licensure/Certification
- Valid Florida driver’s license; insurable under Orlando Health’s insurance standards. Officers unable to maintain this after 90 days must sign a “No Driving” document until approved to drive again.
- Obtain a State of Florida Class “D” Security Officer License within 120 days of hire, renewed biannually.
- Obtain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification within 120 days of hire, renewed annually.
- Obtain Basic Security Officer Certification or higher through the International Association of Hospital Security and Safety within 120 days of hire, maintained throughout employment.
