Job Summary:
Provides a reasonably safe and secure environment by providing security services for staff, patients, and premises, and acts as a first responder to urgent facility matters. Provides direction and guidance to officers on shift, acting as a mentor and role model for junior officers.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with training of new staff, coach, train, and mentor all staff. Demonstrate respect, encourage learning, and support diversity in team building and customer interactions.
- The lead officer is the first escalation point in the chain of command during duty hours. Use discretion to escalate issues if unresolved. Manage staff scheduling and administrative duties.
- Ensure all shift duties are assigned and completed. Conduct investigations, complete reports, follow up, and communicate effectively. Prioritize duties to ensure safety and security.
- Review reports to monitor shift activities and trends. Assist in reviewing and updating security policies and emergency plans, and participate in drills.
- Promote safety by performing door checks, identifying lighting issues, ensuring elevator operation, assisting with disruptive individuals, and monitoring security-sensitive matters.
- Maintain compliance with accreditation standards, laws, and regulations including The Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA.
- Provide professional customer service, assist with problem-solving, monitor safety, respond to complaints, and communicate with staff and leadership.
- Assist law enforcement and other officials, ensuring legal compliance and patient rights are respected.
- Troubleshoot access control, alarm, and video systems; identify future needs; proficiently manage badge access systems.
- Operate motor vehicle for patrols if necessary.
- Maintain alertness and operate safely at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
- High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of three years' experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Complete psychological assessment after conditional employment offer.
- Proof of motor vehicle liability insurance upon hire and request.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Constant hearing and vision use, lifting 0-50 lbs, standing, walking, and other physical activities as detailed.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Requirements vary by state, including valid driver’s license, security officer licenses, and law enforcement credentials where applicable.
