Job summary

Churchill Downs Incorporated is seeking a Lead Security Guard to assist in supervising security operations and personnel at Ellis Park. This role protects all Ellis Park properties and guests, addressing issues such as altercations, theft, vandalism, and illegal activities.

Responsibilities include responding to emergencies, managing crowd control, documenting incidents, and providing directions about park promotions and events. HS diploma or GED and 1–3 years security experience preferred.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 years of security or related work experience preferred.
• Must have valid driver’s license and able to drive as needed.

• Respond to emergencies and incidents including crowd control, evacuation procedures and incident command.
• Communicate courteously and professionally with patrons, personnel and the public.
• Prepare incident reports and documentation on a daily basis.
• Develop knowledge of park services, amenities, and events to answer guest inquiries about promotions and events.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Ellis Park offers live thoroughbred horse racing during the summer season, with simulcast wagering 365 days a year, 300 HHR machines, exciting promotions, convenient sports betting, The Pea Patch Deli, Dade Park Grill and more.

JOB SUMMARY

A Lead Security Guard assists in supervising security operations and security personnel in the absence of a security supervisor. In addition, this person provides site protection to all Ellis Park properties and physical protection to all Ellis Park patrons and personnel addressing issues including, but not limited to altercations, theft, vandalism, fire, illegal entry and illegal activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide safety and security to patrons and Ellis Park personnel, facilities, grounds and property belonging to Ellis Park.
• Respond to emergency situations, and situations to protect patrons and Ellis Park personnel including, but not limited to: Traffic control, crowd control, evacuation/staging procedures, and incident command situations.
• Effectively communicate and address matters involving patrons, Ellis Park personnel and the public in a courteous, professional and business-like manner.
• Prepare incident reports and p repare documentation concerning each incident and report to appropriate personnel on a daily basis.
• Develop a thorough knowledge of services, amenities, and surroundings, providing accurate directions, and information for guest inquiries about promotions and special events.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One (1) to three (3) years of relevant work experience, preferably in a security or job related field.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

• Requires the ability to drive hear, sit, stand, talk, walk, turn/twist and repetitively use hands 51-100% of the time.
• Requires the ability to balance/climb, bend over, crouch/stoop, kneel and reach overhead 25-50% of the time.
• Requires the ability to push/pull, carry, lift and slide/transfer 1- 50+ lbs. 25-50% of the time.
• Requires the ability to solve problems, organize, plan, make decisions, interpret data, read and write 51-100% of the time.
• Train, schedule, apportion work among employees, directing (determining work techniques, equipment, materials), appraise productivity and measure performance.
• The job is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to varied temperatures and fumes (e.g., cigarette smoke).

Other Requirements:

• Obtain and maintain a valid driver's license.
