Job description

Overview

The Security Officer II is responsible for implementing the departments' Patrol and Response strategy. Ensure proactive patrols, exceptional customer service, and a willingness to serve. Responsible for helping to maintain a safe and secure operation of the healthcare campus including high-stress areas such as the ER, Maternal Child, Behavioral Center, and others. Be familiar with and be able to rotate through all hospital zones.


Responsibilities

  • Exterior - Patrols campus for purposes of detection and deterrence. Conducts visual inspection of vehicles in all parking lots. Present at major shift changes to ensure staff safety with overt presence. Ensures unauthorized persons are not loitering. Assists with helistop landing safety and keeping a clear pad.
  • ER- Maintains presence within the ER zone which includes ER Waiting, pickup/drop-off areas, back treatment areas, and EMS bay arrival. Maintain a sense of calm in the environment, monitor staff at risk from patients under psychiatric holds, and ensure emergency lanes and entrances are unobstructed. Assist during cases of Multiple Casualty Incidents (MCI) and provide primary backup to Weapon Screening Officer. Work in concert with the posted Deputy on duties and proper assignment of requests between the two jurisdictions. Assist with Visitor badging to the ER.
  • Interior – Responds to all non-clinical emergency codes within the facility. Patrol building both as a security presence and aware of any safety issues that could harm staff/visitors/patients. Must be highly mobile and quick to respond when needed. This zone may be required to assist in the lobby with Visitor Badging.
  • Documentation – Maintains detailed records of daily work tasks to include but not limited to, activity reports, Security Occurrence/Incident Reports, and entering work orders in the maintenance system when deficiencies are found. Documentation is expected to be completed prior to the end of shift.
  • Other technologies – Daily interaction and use of radio and cell phone, access control systems, camera systems, infant alarm systems, and weapons detection systems. Actively monitor and respond to important work-related emails as needed throughout the day.
  • Safety Awareness – Must remain vigilant and corrective to safety concerns including but not limited to: slip, trip, and fall risks, lights out in parking lot and main walkways, blocked fire egress routes, SDS hazmat issues. May be called upon to escort vendors to units. Officers will always observe safety protocols within construction, Lab, Radiology, Infant, and Pharmacy areas.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management within job scope.

Experience Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years Healthcare Security, Safety

Preferences:

5 years+ Law Enforcement/Corrections or Military Police may substitute for prior Healthcare Security experience.

Certificates/Licenses/Registration

  • Valid Florida’s Driver’s License
  • Level II AHCA Screening upon hire
  • Florida State D License (Security)
  • Valid Auto Insurance
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association within 30 days of employment
  • WELLE within 90 days of hire
  • IAHSS Healthcare Basic Certification within 6 months – maintained every 5 years thereafter

Preferences:

  • Preferred Florida State G License (Security) within 12 months
