Job RequirementsPOSITION SUMMARY
To be fully engaged in providing Uncompromised Safety, Superior Quality, Memorable Patient/Customer Experiences, and Financial Stewardship through unarmed security services to ensure the safety and security of associates, patients, and visitors of Health First facilities.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES
- Responsible for internal and external mobile patrol of facility assigned, including Emergency Department if hospital facility.
- Responds to behavioral emergencies with combative patients, customers and associates.
- Deters criminal activity and misconduct; investigates suspicious situations; performs security patrols of designated areas on foot or in vehicle.
- Communicates via 2-way radios, telephones and computers.
- Watches for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards.
- Sounds alarms or calls police/fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
- Warns violators of rule infractions such as loitering, smoking or carrying prohibited articles.
- Permits authorized persons to enter property and monitors entrances and exits.
- Observes departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensures authorized removal of property is conducted within appropriate physical security requirements.
- Assists associates, patients, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner; conducts patient escorts, patient watches, and provides safety escorts.
- Assists and/or transports deceased to morgue.
- Completes required shift logs and reports; complies with site post orders, and Health First policies and procedure; investigates and prepares reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities.
Work ExperienceMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Must be at least one of the following education or experience requirements:
- Graduate of Police/Corrections Academy.
- Associate’s degree or above in Criminal Justice.
- Active Military (Four [4]-year term of Service Minimum).
- Law Enforcement experience.
- Service in Elite Military Forces, Military Police, or Combat Arms.
- Work Experience: None
- Licensure: None
- Certification: At least one (1) of the following certifications within thirty (30) days of start date:
- American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course,
- OR American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card.
- Work Experience In Lieu of Education: One (1) year of verifiable security officer experience.
- Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Expected completion of Crisis Prevention Training within first 90 days.
- Physical ability to deal with or subdue mental health patients in crisis.
- Must be willing to carry out tasks that may require entering the hospital morgue and the roof-top helipad.
- Ability to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors.
- Ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Active listening skills with ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively.
- Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately.
- Attention to detail.
- Maintain required certifications, licensing, and training to achieve professional competency as appropriate for the position.
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensure: Class “D” Security Officer License.
- PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Physically agile; requires walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching majority of the shift.
- Heavy work that frequently includes lifting or moving objects up to 100 pounds or more with or without assistance.
- May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or overhead.
- May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
- May be exposed to inside environments and outside environments with extreme temperatures, air contamination, dirt, grease, or water.
- May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
- May operate various types of manual and motorized equipment used in the transportation of materials.
- May be exposed to intense noise or vibration and awkward or confined work position.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
- Workspace may vary from open to confined.
- May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
