Job summary

Geisinger Medical Center seeks a diligent Security Officer responsible for maintaining safety, patrolling assigned areas, monitoring surveillance, and responding to emergencies to protect patients, visitors, and staff.

You will enforce hospital rules, operate security technology, coordinate with local authorities, and assist during evacuations and drills. This role requires a High School Diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, good communication, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Qualifications

• One year of related experience preferred (security, military, police).
• Physical ability to walk, stand, and patrol for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine foot and vehicle patrols of assigned areas.
• Enforce hospital rules of conduct and safety.
• Monitor for unauthorized persons, mechanical malfunctions, and fire hazards.
• Report or resolve problems as appropriate.
• Complete detailed written shift reports.
• Direct firefighting activities and inspect buildings for hazards.
• Participate in fire drills and safety programs; coordinate with local fire departments.
• Direct traffic on hospital property and enforce parking regulations.
• Provide escort and emergency delivery services to campus facilities.
• Assist in orientation of new employees and students on fire, safety, and security policies.
• Lock and unlock doors in designated areas per schedule.
• Operate security technology including computers, CCTV, fire alarm, access control, security alarm systems, and radios.
• Respond to emergency and hazardous material incidents per policy.
• Investigate complaints from employees, visitors, and patients.
• Cooperate with local police and authorities.
• Respond to requests for assistance with locating patients.
• Assist in evacuations and coordinate with Life Flight.
• Provide prisoner escort duties as per protocol.
• Provide assistance to handicapped, wheelchair, and elderly persons.
• Maintain incident and theft loss reports.
