Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a Security Officer to maintain safety and security across assigned areas. You will patrol facilities, deter criminal activity, respond to emergencies, and support patients, visitors, and staff.

This role requires at least 2 years of law enforcement experience, Act 120 and Act 235 certifications, BLS within 6 months, a valid driver's license, and the ability to operate security technologies such as CCTV and access control.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years law enforcement experience.
  • Act 120 training or equivalent.
  • Act 235 certification.
  • Basic Life Support certification within 6 months.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical fitness to perform essential job functions.
  • Successful completion of background checks and court petitions.
  • Proficiency in handling weapons and law enforcement applications.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine patrols on foot or vehicle of assigned areas.
  • Enforce hospital rules of conduct.
  • Complete detailed reports as required.
  • Respond to acts of violence and potentially engage in use of force as governed by Pennsylvania law and Geisinger policy.
  • Carry, properly handle, maintain proficiency, and deploy lethal and less lethal weapons as prescribed by federal/state law.
  • Effect arrests for certain criminal offenses and issue Pennsylvania state citations using applications such as the PA Justice Network.
  • Perform as a Geisinger Security Officer when necessary.
  • Handle and manage evidence pertaining to criminal incidents occurring in/on Geisinger owned properties.
  • Direct traffic on hospital property and enforce traffic and parking regulations.
  • Assist patients, visitors, and employees with vehicle problems.
  • Operate security technology equipment including computers, CCTV, fire alarm system, access control, and security alarm systems.
  • Respond to requests for assistance involving patients, assist in locating patients, and support Life Flight unloading as needed.
  • Assist and direct patients and visitors to areas on campus; provide aid to disabled persons or others in need of physical assistance.

Job Summary

Responsible for maintaining safety and security for an assigned area. Maintains safety and security of patients, visitors, and employees; conducts routine patrols of assigned areas to keep property and persons free from risk; responds to emergencies, fire alarms, hazardous material incidents; deals with conflict, confrontation, and stressful situations on a routine basis. Establishes a uniformed police presence by patrolling Geisinger property to deter criminal activity, investigate incidents, document activities, and take appropriate police action within the scope of Geisinger policy. Must be physically able to provide the essential services of the position.

Qualifications

  • Act 235 certification (prerequisite)
  • Basic Life Support certification within 6 months
  • Valid driver’s license

  • Successful completion of background checks and court petitions
  • Proficiency in handling weapons and law enforcement applications
Compensation

Minimum hiring rate of $16.24 per hour, with increased rates for experienced individuals and up to $2 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts.

Work Schedule

Rotation schedule; weekends and holidays are required; includes evening, night, and weekend shifts.
