Job description

Job Summary Responsible for maintaining safety and security for an assigned area. Maintains safety and security of patients, visitors, and employees; conducts routine patrols of assigned areas to keep property and persons free from risk; meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned area. Responds to emergencies, fire alarms, hazardous material incidents. Deals with conflict, confrontation, and stressful situations on a routine basis. Performs both foot patrol and vehicle patrol of facilities and grounds. Must be physically able to provide the essential services of the position.

Job Duties
  1. Conducts routine patrols on foot or by car of assigned areas; enforces hospital rules of conduct; is aware of unauthorized persons, unusual physical factors, and mechanical malfunctions; reports or resolves problems as appropriate; completes detailed written shift reports; may carry a watch tour clock or similar device to record patrols.
  2. Directs firefighting activities; inspects buildings for fire and safety hazards; enforces fire and safety rules; participates in fire drills and safety programs; collaborates with local fire departments.
  3. Directs traffic on hospital property; enforces traffic and parking regulations; assists patients, visitors, and employees with vehicle problems per policy and training.
  4. Provides routine escort and emergent delivery services within campus facilities.
  5. Participates in orientation of new employees and students regarding fire, safety, and security policies; trains in firefighting techniques and equipment use.
  6. Locks designated doors after hours; unlocks doors at the start of business hours.
  7. Operates security technology including CCTV, fire alarm, access control, security alarm systems, personal computers, and radios.
  8. Performs emergency and hazardous material response services as per training, policy, and equipment capabilities.
  9. Participates in site emergency management plans and hospital emergency incident roles.
  10. Assists in set up duties related to Emergency Operations Center.
  11. Investigates complaints from employees, visitors, and patients; collaborates with police and authorities.
  12. Prepares detailed incident, theft, and loss reports.
  13. Responds to assistance requests involving patients, helps locate patients, and supports Life Flight when needed.
  14. Performs prisoner escort duties per protocol.
  15. Assists and directs patients and visitors within the Medical Center; provides information; assists handicapped, wheelchair, and elderly persons; manages wheelchair supply at hospital entrance.

Position Details

The following requirements are specific for employees at GLH:

  1. Must complete or hold current Emergency Vehicle Operator's Certification (EMSVO) approved by PA DoH within 90 days of hire; maintain certification during employment.
  2. Drive ambulance between hospital, helipad, and transport flight crews and patients; no direct patient care unless lifting/moving patients into/out of ambulance or helicopter.
  3. Ensure vehicle readiness including fueling and report operational issues.
