The position enforces security practices for all employees, students, visitors, and the College’s facilities. It also requires adherence to compliance guidelines and training requirements related to the Campus Security Act (CSA).
Responsibilities:
- Enforce College security policies for students, employees, vendors, and visitors.
- Patrol the campus on foot, bicycle, cart, or vehicle to promote safety and deter crime and misconduct.
- Monitor safety equipment such as surveillance cameras and fire alarms.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including incident reports, and communicate them to the Toms River Police Department.
- Inspect, secure, and monitor all College facilities to detect fire, property damage, or irregularities.
- Escort students, staff, and visitors within departmental policies as needed.
- Work across all OCC facilities, including offices, classrooms, and equipment rooms, which may have limited ventilation or congestion, and under adverse weather conditions.
- Participate in annual CSA compliance training and follow the guidelines of the Campus Security Act.
- Engage in related projects and initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least one year of experience in security, military, or a related field monitoring property and ensuring safety.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including transporting equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Complete Ocean County College training for First Aid, CPR, and AED certification within 90 days.
- Valid New Jersey Driver’s License in good standing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- SORA certification.
- Experience in a college or university setting.
- Proof of graduation from an accredited police academy and certification by the Police Training Commission of New Jersey.
- Certification and ability to carry a firearm as a Retired Police Officer (RPO).
