Job Description
The Security Officer I reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Under the direction of Security Leadership, this position is responsible for adhering to established policies and procedures to protect the hospital from theft and damage; provides protection for patients, visitors, associates, and medical staff; investigates and quells disturbances; restrains patients upon proper direction and assistance of medical/clinical staff.

This is a casual position, meaning hours are not guaranteed.

Night Shift

**Responsibilities:**

  • Investigates and quells hospital incidents and disturbances to maintain security.
  • Completes reports for supervisory personnel.
  • Notifies city officials (police and fire) and prepares descriptive reports.
  • Performs perimeter and internal patrols of hospital buildings and grounds, both on foot and mobile.
  • Investigates hazardous conditions, theft, criminal activity, and other security issues.
  • Monitors access control, fire and duress alarms, and security video systems.
  • Controls traffic to ensure access for emergency vehicles, patients, visitors, and during incidents.
  • Maintains security of restricted areas by checking and locking doors.
  • Provides escorts for staff to vehicles as requested.
  • Delivers deceased bodies to the morgue and releases them to authorized persons.
  • Responds to emergency codes per guidelines.
  • Alerts the Manager of activities requiring disciplinary action.
  • Enforces hospital policies and procedures.
  • Displays a professional, approachable service image.
  • Conducts contraband searches for safety.
  • Monitors individuals or situations for safety.
  • Oversees staff parking permit process and compliance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications:**
Required:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of IAHSS Basic exam within 90 days of hire
  • Maintain IAHSS Basic certification
  • Current BLS certification through AHA within 9 months
  • Completion of Northwestern Medicine Defensive Tactics in Healthcare within 6 months
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Writing skills for reports and paperwork
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Physical ability to lift/carry up to 65 pounds, respond quickly, and perform physical tasks like stair climbing

Preferred:
  • Experience in healthcare security, police, or military
  • Valid FOID card
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree
