Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Tacoma is seeking a Security Officer I to patrol campuses, protect patients, staff, and visitors, and respond to alarms and emergencies. Responsibilities

• Patrol VMFH buildings, parking structures and grounds on foot or by vehicle to deter crime and protect people and property.
• Identify security and safety concerns; report and follow up on maintenance issues.
• Respond to alarms and emergent incidents; operate CCTV and access/alarm systems.
• Determine access control decisions and liaise with appropriate authorities as needed.
• Document actions and draft incident reports; maintain composure in emergent situations.

*Job Summary and Responsibilities*

As our Security Officer I, you will perform a full range of security activities through patrolling assigned campuses and clinics, protecting persons, property, and equipment from volatile individuals, unauthorized access, or hazards.

Every day you will patrol buildings (foot/vehicle), identify security violations, investigate incidents, respond to alarms/emergency codes, control hospital access, monitor detection systems, support helistop operations, and de-escalate or physically restrain individuals when necessary. You will also document actions, monitor cameras, and draft reports, while engaging in emergent situations.

To be successful in this role, you will be reliable, possess strong customer service skills, demonstrate physical capability for emergency response, and have the ability to exercise good judgment in interpreting guidelines, all while adhering to strict safety protocols.

• Provides protection of property, and mitigates criminal activity through visible deterrents; conducts proactive patrolling to VMFH buildings, parking structures and grounds throughout the course of the shift on foot or by vehicle.
• Identifies, reports, and follows up on security and building maintenance concerns; reports safety and other discrepancies as observed.
• Responds to activation/deactivation of alarm systems/codes and emergent incidents; evaluates circumstances and implements emergency procedures as situations dictate or as directed; acts as a liaison with appropriate stakeholders..
• Operates equipment including, but not limited to: cellular/radio communications, electronic security systems, fire command systems, self-defense weapons, and other equipment related to life-safety and security currently in use by VMFH; uses closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance equipment, access and alarm programs, to monitor any unusual activity on the grounds or vicinity.
• Checks doors to ensure they are secured and reports any signs of vandalism or equipment malfunction to management.
• Makes determinations about matters such as whether to: provide access into secured areas; deny individuals access to the facility after evaluation of their needs; remove individuals from the property; and when to contact outside law enforcement authorities.
