Job description

The Security Officer provides a valuable resource of information and service for patients, visitors, and staff at the hospital. At all times, the officer must display a professional, helpful, and positive attitude when dealing with all internal and external customers. Additionally, the officer is responsible for performing security duties, responding to all security alerts, fires, and disasters (e.g., Disasters Levels I, II, III, and IV). The core responsibility is to protect staff, visitors, patients, and property according to policy and procedures.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Patrol hospital property to ensure safety for patients, visitors, employees, etc.
  2. Handle and monitor patients exhibiting violent behavior.
  3. Investigate security-related incidents and document findings on incident reports.
  4. Maintain a daily report of activities.
  5. Lock and unlock various buildings around the hospital campus.
  6. Be part of the fire and disaster response teams.
  7. Enforce hospital parking policy.
  8. Display a caring and professional attitude when greeting all customers.
  9. Respond to agitation or violent behavior with verbal de-escalation and/or physical restraint, demonstrating competence as part of the security alert team.
  10. Perform hazardous patient decontamination procedures, including hazard identification, proper PPE use, decontamination setup, removal of contaminated clothing, and waste disposal.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Must meet specific physical requirements: sitting (up to 8 hours/day, 4 hours at a time), standing (up to 8 hours/day, 4 hours at a time), walking (up to 8 hours/day, 4 hours at a time). Handling and gripping equipment, occasional lifting (over 200 pounds with assistance), stooping, reaching, hearing, seeing, and depth perception are required.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required, or a minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience in lieu of a diploma.

Training and Experience:

Experience in security or related fields and customer service preferred. Valid PA or NJ Driver’s License with a good driving record is required. Must obey all motor vehicle regulations while operating hospital vehicles.
