Job summary

Sanford Health is seeking a security officer to enforce policies, patrol facilities, and secure buildings. The role requires responding to requests, reporting hazards, and assisting staff, patients, and visitors with professionalism.

Shifts include 1am–7am and other night hours with a 40-hour schedule. Candidates should be able to handle high-stress situations, prioritize safety, and follow local laws while maintaining clear incident records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• College or vocational education is preferred.
• Prior healthcare security, contract security or law enforcement experience is highly preferred.
• May require a current valid driver's license with Sanford insurability depending on region.
• Basic certification by IAHSS preferred within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Monitors conduct of visitors on premises and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning.
• Reports safety, fire hazards or security violations.
• Responds to all requests for assistance from employees, patients/residents and visitors.
• Assists with any and all situation; i.e., problem-solving with positive outcomes.
• May escort personnel to and from parking areas as requested.
• Maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
• Ability to work with all age groups.
• Must prioritize calls for service in order of urgency based on safety needs.
• Security officers are expected to de-escalate highly stressful situations.
• Maintain awareness of local laws affecting behavior on private property.
• Skills include effective communication, professional reporting, and basic security duties.

• The necessary skills that are required involve the following: communicate effectively with all customers, ability to write professional reports, demonstrate the physical ability to perform basic security officers functions as trained.
• This position may have access to areas where medications are stored in order to perform their specific job related functions.

• Prior experience healthcare security, contract security and/or law enforcement is highly preferred.
• May require a current valid driver's license with Sanford insurability dependent upon region.
• Basic certification by International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety preferred within one year of hire.
