Job summary

Serva Security, in partnership with our client, seeks a professional Armed Security Officer for a Tennessee school. The role focuses on patrols, campus safety, and responsive protection while building trust with students, staff, and visitors.

This full-time, non-exempt position operates on a Monday–Friday schedule, 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with summer employment; candidates must meet state licensing and training standards and pass background checks.

Qualifications

• Current Tennessee Armed Officer License.
• Completed an approved TN Active Shooter course.
• Pass Serva’s Physical Fitness Test.
• Demonstrable Firearms Skill and Training.
• Willing to put yourself in harm’s way for others.
• Must pass the TBI criminal background check required to work in educational facilities with children present.
• Be able to comply with the eligibility to work in the United States via a Federal E-Verify check.

Responsibilities

• Conducting security patrols and monitoring premises to prevent and respond to security incidents.
• When faced with a threat, be capable of choosing the appropriate and lawful level of force necessary to preserve our clients' lives and safety.
• Secure campus and personnel by patrolling campus, including buildings, parking lots, and athletic fields, as well as inspecting buildings and access points
• Maintain a positive and courteous demeanor, and communicate with others in a professional and respectful manner.
• Assist with daily carpool and traffic control.
• Accompany personnel and students between buildings and parking lots - upon request.
• Formally log all observations, occurrences, and surveillance activities in a timely and accurate manner.
• Politely direct campus guests to appropriate log-in points and professionally notify unwanted visitors to leave the campus grounds.
• Be outgoing and approachable while providing protective services.
• Develop professional relationships with the staff, students, and family of the school community.
• Be collaborative in problem-solving and proactive in addressing needs.
• Learn and understand the school culture and deliver services in keeping with that culture.

Compensation: $25-$30 per hour, DOQ

As a School Security Officer, you will be part of a two-officer team responsible for conducting security patrols, maintaining a safe campus environment, and responding to security incidents and requests for assistance. We are looking for an officer who is confident, approachable, and professional. Someone who can build positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and visitors while maintaining a strong security presence. The ability to balance vigilance with excellent customer service is essential to succeeding in this role.

This is a full-time position on a two-officer team. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with continued employment throughout the summer months.

Minimum Standards:

• Current Tennessee Armed Officer License.
• Completed an approved TN Active Shooter course.

Preferred Candidate Qualities:

• Prior law enforcement experience.
• Prior military service, honorable discharge.
• Prior school security/SRO experience.
• First Aid, CPR, and AED trained.

Physical Requirements:

• Be able to do 50 push-ups, then 50 sit-ups (or a 70-second plank), and 50 bodyweight squats in less than 8 minutes.
• Work will be indoor and outdoor and require long periods of movement and activity.
• Employment typically requires standing, walking, and working in noisy environments.
• Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Carries firearms and other required security items at all times.
