Job summary

Martha's Vineyard Hospital, Inc. is seeking a Security Officer to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. You will patrol assigned areas, respond to incidents, and document events with precision.

You will de-escalate tense situations, work well independently or in teams, and support security operations across the campus. Relevant licenses and BLS certification are required or pursued after hire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
• Licenses and Credentials: Class D Driver's License; Basic Life Support (BLS); AVADE Workplace Violence Prevention Certification Levels I-III within six months of hire.
• Experience in hospital, security/police, emergency medical or customer services preferred.
• Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills, ability to deescalate anxious individuals.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas, focusing on high-risk zones to prevent theft, injuries or damages.
• Identifies unsafe conditions and unsecured areas to protect patients, visitors and staff.
• Maintains strict confidentiality at all times.
• Investigates thefts, shortages and potential misconduct; notifies law enforcement and participates in court proceedings as required.
• Prepares accurate written reports; keeps logs and informs Supervisor of incidents.
• Maintains accountability for valuables and evidence; ensures safekeeping and proper documentation.
• Receives calls for service via integrated security systems; responds using two-way radio; documents actions.
• Assists with workplace and domestic violence cases; responds to medical emergencies; may assist in restraining patients; protects dignitaries; controls pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
• Voluntary participation in departmental committees and task forces.
