ROLE PURPOSE

Our Security Representatives are the face of the Atlanta History Center in a customer service-based security position and get to work in a world-class museum featuring historical artifacts and exhibits and much more. This position is a great opportunity for those wanting to begin a career in security or law enforcement or for those individuals retired from the military or law enforcement. We recognize that it is highly unlikely that an applicant meets 100% of the qualifications for a given role. The primary purpose of the Security Officer in this role is to ensure the safety and security of all individuals and property within the front entrance parking area and the parking deck. This includes monitoring vehicle and pedestrian traffic, enforcing parking regulations, and providing a visible security presence to deter and respond to potential safety incidents. The Security Officer will collaborate with facility management and emergency services as needed, conduct regular patrols to identify and mitigate security risks, and assist in maintaining a safe environment for guests, employees, and vehicles. Additionally, the officer will be responsible for reporting any suspicious activities or violations, responding to emergencies, and providing excellent customer service to enhance the overall experience for visitors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary

  • Monitor and oversee the front entrance parking area and parking deck to ensure safety and security.
  • Enforce parking regulations and address any violations in a professional manner.
  • Conduct regular patrols of the parking areas to deter and respond to potential safety incidents.
  • Provide a visible security presence to enhance the sense of safety for guests and employees.
  • Collaborate with facility management and emergency services as necessary.
  • Report any suspicious activities, safety concerns, or incidents to appropriate authorities.
  • Assist in emergency situations, including coordinating with first responders and ensuring efficient evacuation if needed.
  • Offer excellent customer service by assisting visitors with questions or concerns related to parking.
  • Maintain clear communication with team members and management regarding security issues.
  • Document incidents and maintain accurate records as required.

General

  • Be able to work multiple posts, for rotating schedules and in case of call-offs or vacations.
  • Patrol buildings, grounds, docks, and all work sites
  • Patrol lobbies, corridors, and public areas to ensure safety of public and staff, including detecting for fire, or any unsafe conditions.
  • Patrol public areas to ensure there is no missing or inoperative safety equipment.
  • Examine doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
  • Registers at watch stations to record time of inspection trips.
  • Inspect assigned areas and record/report data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of equipment, to the appropriate staff/management.
  • Drives radio equipped cart through client's establishment, check alarms and locates sources of alarm.
  • Assists management and enforcement officers in emergency situations.
  • Apprehend unauthorized persons found on property when necessary and release them to custody of authorities.
  • Perform and set thermostatic controls to maintain specified temperatures in buildings or cold storage rooms, only as needed and requested.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures as assigned and in accordance with AHC procedures.

Communication

  • Interview guests and employees to detect infringements and investigate disturbances, complaints, thefts, vandalisms, and accidents.
  • Warning violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
  • Sound alarm or call emergency services in case of fire, injuries, or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Write incident and investigation reports.
  • Contact supervisor by radio or telephone to report irregularities and obtain further instructions.
  • Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Education/ Experience Requirement: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: At least one (1) year of experience in security or a related field is preferred.
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certification is a plus
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos using the English language.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram, form.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Have knowledge of Internet programs, Word Processing software and other software as required, to perform the job successfully.
  • Must be available to work all schedules and shifts and be available to work on occasion at short notice for call-offs.
  • Reliable transportation to be able to work at either Buckhead or Midtown locations.

Physical

  • Be able to walk a patrol or stand for a minimum of 8 hours a day.
  • Be able to climb stairs efficiently.
  • Bend, stoop, or work with hands above shoulder level.
  • Be able to lift and operate safely a 25-50 lb. fire extinguisher and other safety equipment.
  • Able to drive an official/department vehicle. (Golf Cart)
  • Able to work outside for extended periods.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and ability to see and distinguish basic colors.
