Responsibilities
- Protect, serve, and assist patients, staff, and guests.
- Respond to emergency codes.
- Use communication skills to de-escalate distressed individuals, including during behavioral and psychiatric emergencies.
- Subdue or restrain individuals when necessary, operating available tools like restraints, sprays, shields, handcuffs, etc.
- Monitor individuals for unsafe actions, requiring acute hearing and vision for quick reactions.
- Maintain a safe environment by monitoring buildings and grounds, and taking appropriate action.
- Handle dangerous items such as firearms and narcotics when needed.
- May come into contact with blood, body fluids, or deceased persons, using personal protective equipment.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, or complaints on hospital property.
- Facilitate safe takeoff and landing of medical aircraft.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; prior military, law enforcement, or security experience preferred.
- Obtain or hold International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security officer certification within six months of hire (Ohio Peace Officers certification not accepted).
- BAT (Breath Alcohol Technician) certification required within six months, with recertification every 5 years.
- CPR/AED/First Aid certification required within six months, with recertification every 2 years.
- Non-violent crisis intervention training required within six months, with recertification every 2 years.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license, insurable under Firelands’ auto policy, with ability to drive day and night.
- Maintain certifications in handcuffing, defensive tactics, Turtle Shield, and Reflex Protect as appropriate.
- Must have a mobile phone.
