What You Will Do

• Protect, serve, and assist patients, staff, and guests.
• Respond to emergency codes.
• Use communication skills to deescalate distressed individuals, including behavioral and psychiatric emergencies.
• Subdue/restrain individuals when needed, operating tools like restraints, sprays, shields, handcuffs.
• Monitor individuals for unsafe actions, with acute hearing and vision to react quickly.
• Maintain safety of buildings and grounds, resolving issues as needed.
• Handle dangerous ordinances (firearms, narcotics) when necessary.
• May come into contact with blood, body fluids, deceased persons with proper PPE.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, or complaints.
• Facilitate safe medical aircraft takeoff and landing.

What You Will Need

• High school diploma or GED; prior military, law enforcement, or security experience preferred.
• Obtain or hold International Association of Healthcare Safety and Security officer certification within six months of hire (Ohio Peace Officers Training may substitute but Firelands cannot hold that certificate).
• BAT certification upon hire or within six months, re-certified every 5 years.
• CPR/AED/First Aid certification upon hire or within six months, re-certified every 2 years.
• Non-violent crisis intervention training upon hire or within six months, re-certified every 2 years.
• Valid Ohio driver’s license, insurable under Firelands auto policy, able to drive day and night.
• Maintain certifications in handcuffing, defensive tactics, Turtle Shield, Reflex Protect as appropriate.
• Must have a mobile phone.
