Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network is seeking a Hospital Security Officer to protect patients, staff, and property across hospital facilities and campuses. You will patrol buildings and grounds, respond to alarms, and assist with evacuations as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: High School Diploma or GED; additional education is a plus.
  • 1 year of Security, Law Enforcement, Corrections, Military experience, or academy graduation.
  • Knowledge of LVHN emergency codes and response protocols.
  • Ability to troubleshoot access control and alarm systems.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper use of security equipment.
  • Driver’s license PA; ability to drive LVHN vehicles as needed.
  • BLS, CHSO, and other relevant certifications within stated timeframes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct internal and external patrols of hospital grounds and parking areas.
  • Maintain and operate vehicles and shuttles safely.

  • Respond to coded alarms and provide security escorts when requested.
  • Assist with evacuations in emergencies requiring strength and flexibility.
  • Maintain high visibility as a deterrent and provide assistance as needed.

Summary

Protects and provides a safe environment for the hospitals, parking facilities, satellite facilities, employees, patients, and visitors. Assists in controlling access to the facility by periodically patrolling buildings, grounds, and work sites. Acts as a first responder to all emergency incidents, as needed.

Job Duties
  • Helps mitigate threats to the safety and security of all staff, patients, visitors, and their property within the facility, as well as LVHN property.
  • Intervenes when suspicious or abnormal behavior is observed or reported, and stops, questions, and detains persons when reasonable suspicion exists.
  • Conducts both internal and external patrols of the hospital, satellite clinic, parking lots and grounds, and reports on security and safety hazards.
  • Maintains and operates vehicles and shuttles in a safe manner. Ensures proper working condition and cleanliness of all vehicles.
  • Conducts initial inquiries for both administrative and potential criminal complaints and reports findings.
  • Responds to all coded alarms and performs security escorts when requested.
  • Assists with evacuations in emergency situations requiring strength, stamina and flexibility.
  • Maintains a high level of visibility to serve as a deterrent to undesirable activity and to be readily available to provide assistance to anyone in need.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 year Security, Law Enforcement, Corrections or Military experience, or graduation from a Law Enforcement academy.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Knowledge of LVHN Emergency codes and response protocols.
  • Ability to troubleshoot access control and alarm systems.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper use of security equipment.
  • DL - Driver’s License_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire and
  • BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association Within 90 Days and
  • CHSO - Certified Healthcare Security Officer Basic Level - International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety Within 90 Days and
  • BCCM - Basic Comprehensive Crisis Management - Business Continuity Management Institute Within 90 Days

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient’s weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
