Job summary

Fermilab is seeking a Security Officer who, under general supervision, provides customer service by carrying out safety and security procedures, site policies, and emergency response activities in a 24/7 environment. This role is assigned to the day shift and operates onsite at Batavia, IL, under a collective bargaining agreement.

Daily duties include patrolling property, guarding access points, responding to calls, and completing incident reports.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1+ years of relevant experience.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Must possess 20-hour Basic Security Training certificate and IL PERC card.
• Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
• Must be a US citizen.
• Pre-Employment Screening incl. drug testing, psychological and medical testing.

Responsibilities

• Patrol property on foot and/or vehicle, secure personnel and assets; report hazards and malfunctions.
• Guard site access points; issue passes and greet personnel professionally.
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls; follow procedures.
• Complete case reports on incidents and property loss/damage.
• Communicate with Security Operations Center via radio or phone.
• Maintain activity reports and patrol round logs.

The expected hiring range for this position is:

$24.52-$24.52.

About the Role:

Fermilab is seeking a Security Officer who under general supervision from the Security Lieutenant, will be responsible for providing customer service to the Laboratory by carrying out safety and security procedures, site-specific policies and when appropriate, emergency response activities on a 24 hours/day, 7 days/week environment. This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement and is assigned to the day shift. The schedule may require flexibility and occasional short-notice adjustments to meet operational needs.

Shift: Day 6:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Fermilab Security operates on a continuous 24/7 schedule.

What your day-to-day as a Security Officer at Fermilab will look like:

• Patrol property on foot and/or vehicle, securing personnel, assets, buildings, gates, and perimeter in all weather conditions; reporting any hazardous conditions, equipment malfunctions, or building alarms.
• Guard site access points, permitting or refusing entry based upon Fermilab Site Access policy, Post Orders, and/or Policy & Procedures, performing vehicle inspections for prohibited articles, issuing passes, and greeting personnel in a prompt, courteous and professional manner in all weather conditions.
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls; follows guidance in accordance with established procedures/policies.
• Complete case reports on property loss, property damage, personnel incidents, vehicle accidents, etc.
• Communicate with the Security Operations Center and/or security staff via two-way radio or telephone.
• Maintain officer activity reports and completes patrol round assignments as directed.
• Keep informed of current and applicable Fermi Security and Fire Department policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Comply with Department (DOE) directives and the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) to ensure adherence to all applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct equipment and vehicle checks and reports/logs deficiencies to supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

Essential Competencies and Attributes for Success:

• High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1+ years of relevant experience.
