Carilion New River Valley Medical Center is hiring a Security Officer to deliver security services, monitor areas, and assist in protecting patients, staff, and property at the Christiansburg facility.
The role requires a high school diploma, DCJS Unarmed Security certification within 6 months, and AHA BLS-HCP certification. No prior experience is required, with on-site duties and occasional collaboration with law enforcement.

The Security Officer provides security services, monitors assigned areas, and supports protection of patients, staff, and property. The Security Officer Ensures the timely and professional delivery of security services. Assists in the protection of life and property. Monitors assigned areas for suspicious or threatening behavior. May be assigned to fixed posts and, depending on the post, responsible for monitoring pedestrian or vehicular traffic at various points throughout the Hospital. May guard patients that may be a danger to themselves or others. Duties may also include parking vehicles, checking doors, providing escorts, assisting police officers, assisting motorists and other hospital staff with various services. Monitors fixed posts and performs the services required while at those posts. Prepares and reviews security related reports as required. Effectively communicates with all segments of society and promotes cooperation among the security officers and other hospital employees. Transports, guards and/or provides security to patients, staff and visitors as needed Interacts with and assists outside agencies and/or law enforcement staff while they conduct business at the hospital. Ensures assignments are fulfilled, duty posts staffed, and facilities properly secured, monitor and provides crowd/traffic control on hospital property when needed. Operates and uses standard issued equipment. Responds to emergencies when needed. Performs special assignments and other duties as assigned or directed by management.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Driving a Carilion vehicle is generally not a requirement. Must possess a driving record within the scope of Carilion’s driver requirement in order to be eligible to drive a Carilion Vehicle. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Computer keyboarding skills.

Compensation Range: $17.39 - $24.35 Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
