Job Summary

Patrols hospital buildings and grounds to detect or deter criminal activity and unsafe conditions. Responds to emergency situations, calls for service, and other requests for assistance. Provides support for safe and efficient parking and transportation services.

Essential Functions

1. Maintains highly visible foot and vehicle patrols to detect or deter fire, accidents, violations of hospital policies, and criminal acts.
2. Documents information on incident reports and other required documents in a thorough, factual, and timely manner.
3. Assists employees, visitors, and patients with directions, lost and found items, vehicle assistance, escorts, and other requests for assistance. Provides access control for secured areas.
4. Communicates and collaborates with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members, providing appropriate information.
5. Manages verbal and physical conflicts using de-escalation techniques, physical presence, restraint techniques, or other appropriate legal force options.
6. Responds to and investigates suspicious, criminal, or emergency situations.
7. Engages in continuous professional development, including required training and maintaining licensure and certifications.

Qualifications

Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 21 years of age with a valid Michigan driver license
• State of Michigan Driver's License upon hire
• First Aid Certification (AHA) within 180 days
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (AHA or ARC) within 180 days

Preferred

• Associate's Degree in Public Administration or Criminal Justice
• 2 years of relevant experience
• Law Enforcement Academy or Military experience in a comparable environment
