Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a security professional responsible for greeting patients and visitors, patrolling campuses, and responding to security calls. The role includes monitoring CCTV/alarms, enforcing parking policies, and coordinating with maintenance and emergency teams.

Applicants should have a high school diploma, security experience preferred, and may need a FOID card if applicable. Training and ongoing certification are required; bilingual skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, visitors, and Mercyhealth partners in a timely, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Patrol buildings, grounds, and parking lots to deter crime and detect irregularities.
  • Respond to dispatch/security service calls and overhead emergency codes.
  • Check grounds for cleanliness and safety; enforce parking policies.
  • Notify maintenance for lighting or HVAC issues by initiating work orders.
  • Assist with fire drills and training documentation.
  • Write daily reports on shift activities and incidents.
  • Investigate and document unusual incidents reported by staff, visitors, or patients.
  • Monitor environment using CCTV and alarms as applicable.
  • Ensure partners/contractors display Mercyhealth badges or IDs.

Job description

  • Takes initiative to greet all patients, visitors, and Mercyhealth partners in a timely, professional, and courteous manner projecting an open and friendly attitude on a daily basis.
  • Provides a visible deterrence to crime and prohibited activities by patrolling the buildings, grounds, and parking lots of Mercyhealth to detect any irregularities. Inspects doors, windows and locks to ensure a high level of security.
  • Respond to all dispatch/ security service calls and overhead emergency code calls.
  • Checks grounds and areas for cleanliness and safety
  • Perform parking lot patrols and enforce Mercyhealth parking policy
  • Notifies maintenance staff concerning need for repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment through initiating a work order.
  • Assist with completion of fire drills as requested.
  • Write clear and accurate daily reports of shift activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Provides initial investigation and documentation of incidents of unusual circumstances reported by Mercyhealth personnel, visitors, physicians, or patients.
  • Orient and train security staff at respective sites of responsibility as needed and complete training documents.
  • Monitors the Mercyhealth environment using electronic security equipment (CCTV, Alarms, etc.) as applicable by location.
  • Is required to assure and/or request partners and contractors to display Mercyhealth badges or required proof of identity.
  • Duties pertinent to site specific requirements will be assigned.
  • Ensure the safety of all during takeoff and landings of MedFlights.
  • Assist with identification of deceased patients and verification of credential of funeral home and Medical Examiner's Office personnel.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent required Security experience preferred .

Bilingual skills are preferred

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Illinois residents are required to possess a valid FOID (Firearms Owners Identification Card) card/ or be eligible to obtain one for employment .

With the exception of House of Mercy , officers will complete department specific training (Level 3 TACT training, handcuffing, OC spray, ASP baton, and physical control tactics training, etc.) required within 12 months of hire. Must maintain this proficiency on an annual basis.

PAY RANGE:

$18.28 - $27.42
