Lewis & Clark Behavioral Health Services in Yankton, SD is seeking a part-time Security Officer to safeguard staff and clients at the CORE Center. You will patrol facilities, monitor safety systems, respond to emergencies, and assist with de‑escalation while maintaining a welcoming environment.

Responsibilities include ensuring security, conducting safety checks, documenting incidents, and coordinating with law enforcement when needed.

Qualifications

• Six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

• Escort agency personnel and persons served to parking lots and buildings.
• Provide a welcoming environment for agency personnel and persons served.
• Perform breathalyzer checks and obtain vitals for patients when indicated.
• Monitor patients for safety via routine checks and video monitoring.
• Maintain therapeutic posture; assist in de‑escalation and conflict resolution.
• Provide restraints for patients with behavioral safety concerns as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality; log activities and secure property and contraband.
• Serve as liaison to law enforcement; participate in investigations as needed.
• Assist with training new staff.

Location: Yankton, SD - CORE Center

Work Hours/Shift: Days or Nights, 6:30-7:00

Reports To: Security Supervisor

In this role you will:

• Coordinate workflow with other team members to ensure the safety of agency personnel and persons served.
• Patrol agency buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intruders. Report safety and/or fire hazards or security violations. Respond to all emergency codes and security requests ( i.e. staff assists , security alerts, fire alarms).
• Monitor conduct of visitors on agency premises. Confront unauthorized persons for questioning as needed.
• Escort agency personnel and persons served to parking lots and agency buildings.
• Provide a welcoming environment for agency personnel and persons served.
• Perform breathalyzer checks and obtain vitals for patients, when indicated .
• Monitor patients for safety via routine safety checks and video camera monitoring.
• Maintain therapeutic posture with patients experiencing emotional instability, exercising self‑control in volatile situations such as verbal/physical threats and/or confrontation. Assist in conflict resolution and de‑escalation.
• Provide restraints for patients with behavioral safety concerns as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality of agency personnel and persons served.
• Maintain records, prepare incident reports, and log activities related to safety and security duties. Secure and log property including contraband, valuables, and lost and found articles.
• Secure and/or unlock offices and facilities as required .
• Serve as a liaison to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies as well as security staff employed by other agencies; promote and maintain harmonious and effective relationships and communications with said agencies. Participate in investigations as needed.
• Assist with training new staff as required .
• Perform other duties as assigned by the leadership team.

What a typical day will look like:

• As a Security Officer at The CORE Crisis Care Center, you will help create a safe, welcoming, and therapeutic environment for clients, visitors, and staff. Throughout the day, you will patrol agency facilities, monitor security systems and patient safety, respond to emergency situations, and assist with de‑escalating behavioral crises. You will conduct safety checks, complete incident documentation, secure property and facilities, and provide escorts as needed.
