Job summary

Virginia Mason Medical Center seeks a Security Officer to monitor buildings and grounds, protecting employees, patients, and visitors. You will patrol on foot and by vehicle, guard access points, monitor cameras, and test security tech while remaining calm and ready to act in any incident.

Responsibilities include responding to emergencies promptly and maintaining safety across hospital premises, with a focus on threat neutralization and incident reporting.

Qualifications

• Six (6) months of related experience in security, healthcare, or related law enforcement/military experience that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities
• Satisfactory Abstract of Driving Record (Type: Employment Record) must be provided and meet departmental standards
• Candidates must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, and have a valid Washington State Driver's License with a five (5) year clean driving record, for auto liability coverage through VMFH
• Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license and continued maintenance of a clean driving record with no action pending/taken at any time in response to unsafe driver performance or other legal requirements
• International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Basic Certification required within six (6) months of date of hire
• Successful completion of organizational-sponsored handcuff training within sixty (60) days of hire and successful re-certification every two (2) years thereafter
• Successful completion of organizational-sponsored CS Gel (pepper spray) training within sixty (60) days of hire and successful re-certification every two (2) years thereafter
• Successful completion of organization-sponsored control shield training within 60 days of hire and successful re-certification every two (2) years thereafter
• Successful completion of VMFH-sponsored Basic Life Support (BLS) training within 60 days of hire and successful re-certification every two (2) years thereafter

Responsibilities

• Monitor buildings and grounds on the property to ensure safety and security of employees, patients, and visitors
• Walk and drive around the premises daily to observe and respond to security needs
• Guard facility and unit access points, and monitor surveillance cameras
• Test and evaluate new security technology and protocols
• Ensure timely response to emergency codes and incidents
• Remain calm and act based on facts and position limitations

As our Security Officer, you will monitor buildings and grounds on the property to ensure the safety and security of employees, patients, and other visitors. Every day you will monitor the property by walking and driving around the premises. Your security detail could include guarding facility and unit access points, monitoring surveillance cameras, testing new security technology, and protecting all employees/visitors against acts of violence should they arise. To be successful in this role, you’ll need the ability to remain calm and take action based on the situation, known facts, and understand the position limitations. You are also expected to respond to emergency codes in a timely manner.
