Job summary

McLaren is seeking a Security Officer to respond to emergencies, patrol the hospital, and protect patients, visitors, staff and property. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license, with preferred credentials in criminal justice or related training.

Full-time night shift is 10:00pm–6:30am, with weekends. Responsibilities include documenting incidents, escorting guests, enforcing safety policies, and maintaining confidential information, while participating

Responsibilities

  • Makes rounds inside and outside assigned areas and documents unusual incidents.
  • Escorts visitors and assists staff as needed.
  • Observes policy non-conformities and badge/fire/safety requirements.
  • Completes required paperwork timely.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Responds to calls to manage disorderly individuals and emergencies.
  • Rotates through training including CEW/TASER when required.
  • Follows script protocols when answering calls and interacting with entrants.
  • Participates in emergency drills and preparedness planning.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Job description

Position Summary: Under general supervision, responsibilities include being a first responder to emergency situations at the assigned facility; makes periodic tours to secure areas, provides customer service, mitigates sudden behavioral occurrences, deter crimes, checks for irregularities and inspects protection devices and fire control equipment. Assists in the enforcement of security/safety related regulations, and protects hospital patients, visitors, staff and property from hazardous conditions and/or criminal activities, including the potential for violence in the workplace.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Makes rounds, inside and outside of assigned areas as scheduled or assigned, investigating and documenting all unusual or suspicious incidents, initiating corrective action as appropriate.

  2. Provides assistance to other security personnel, hospital employees, and escorts visitors to desired locations as necessary.

  3. Observes and documents the non-conformance of policies and procedures including but not limited to the display of identification badges, fire, disaster, electrical, safety and infection control policies and procedures.

  4. Accurately completes all required paperwork on a timely basis.

  5. Demonstrates discretion in handling confidential information; maintains confidentiality of all employee, patient, visitor, physician, hospital, and security related information.

  6. Responds to calls from nursing and other hospital departments in a timely manner to assist in the management of disorderly patients and/or visitors and emergency codes.

  7. Security Officers who carry a Conducted Electrical Weapon (CEW)/Taser are required to successfully complete all required training, per the Conducted Electrical Weapon — TASER Policy (92210-0025).

  8. Performs functions in accordance with established standards of performance, including but not limited to, using pre-established script when answering phone calls and when interacting with customers entering and exiting the facility.

  9. Participates in emergency preparedness drill, education and planning to the extent described in system, operations and departmental policies.

  10. Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Valid state driver’s license

Driving record must be within the approved insurance company's regulations

Preferred:

  • Training beyond high school in related programs

Previous experience in health care industry, mental health or corrections

  • Associate degree in criminal justice, security administration or related field

Six months of prior work experience
