Job summary

UK King\'s Daughters is seeking Security Officers to maintain a safe environment across our healthcare facilities. You will patrol, monitor CCTV and access control, respond to alarms, and assist with crisis intervention while supporting patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities include documenting incidents, conducting basic investigations, and working with university police and other security personnel.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas, maintaining a visible security presence to deter crime and provide assistance as needed.

• Conducts routine inspections of facilities and security systems to identify and report irregularities such as fire hazards, unsecured doors, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns.
• Controls access to facilities by permitting authorized individuals’ entry, restricting unauthorized access, issuing passes, and monitoring visitor activity after hours.
• Responds to suspicious activity, emergency alarms, and calls for service, taking appropriate action and notifying police, fire departments, or other emergency responders when necessary.
• Investigates incidents, unusual circumstances, and reports from staff, visitors, medical staff, and patients; conducts basic investigative reviews and prioritizes information for reporting purposes.
• Assists medical personnel and staff in managing disruptive or combative individuals and provides crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and de-escalation when appropriate.

Job Description:

Security Officers maintain a safe and secure environment at our HealthCare facilities by protecting patients, visitors, staff, and property. They patrol buildings and grounds, monitor security systems, and maintain a visible presence to deter unsafe or suspicious activity. Security Officers respond to emergency alarms, assistance calls, and sensitive situations, working collaboratively with Communications, other security personnel, and the University Police Department. They assist with disorderly or combative individuals, provide crisis intervention, and conflict resolution, and help de‑escalate potentially volatile situations. Additional responsibilities include completing security reports, conducting basic investigative reviews, enforcing facility policies, monitoring access control and surveillance systems, and assisting patients, visitors, and staff to support a safe healthcare environment.

Essential Functions

• Warns violators of policy or rule infractions and takes appropriate action to prevent losses, damage, or unsafe conditions.
• Maintains accurate documentation, including Daily Activity Reports, incident reports, lost and found logs, and other required departmental records in accordance with departmental procedures and General Orders.
• Provides customer service by interacting with students, faculty, staff, patients, visitors, and vendors; offering information, safety guidance, escorts, and assistance as needed while maintaining professionalism and sensitivity in difficult situations.
• Assists the University police department during special events and as requested.
• Attends required training sessions and completes assigned training to remain compliant with departmental policies and procedures.
• Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor while representing the department and the University.
• Performs administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

Minimal education and/or equivalent experience needed. Vocational training may be needed based on the given area.

Experience Requirement

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part‑time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.

Physical Demands

This position requires regular standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 pounds; intermittent lifting, pushing, and/or pulling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds; intermittent standing or walking with objects weighing up to 25 pounds; intermittent sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time; and performing tasks with repetitive motions. Also involves intermittent risk of back injury from moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials; intermittent risk of injuries from use of equipment on the job; intermittent exposure to cuts or punctures; intermittent exposure to radiation; and occasional exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, bloodborne or airborne pathogens, burns, temperature extremes, loud noises, working in confined spaces, and combative or violent people. Occasional job‑related travel may also be required.
