Job summary

UNC Health in North Carolina seeks a security officer to protect persons and property at Pardee UNC Health Care. You will monitor the facility, respond to emergencies, enforce policies, and assist law enforcement as needed.

The role requires strong communication, incident reporting, and the ability to lift up to 50 lb, with weekend on-site shifts and on-going training to maintain certifications such as BLS and First Aid.

Qualifications

  • Stand/walk for entire shift; may need to run or move quickly as needed.

  • Controls traffic and enforces parking regulations; maintains parking lot surveillance and initiates towing when needed.
  • Responds to emergency codes and supports management of individuals with behavioral issues; follows emergency procedures.

Summary

Provides general security work in the protection of persons and property. Is involved with enforcement of Pardee policies, standards, regulations and codes. Assists local law enforcement with applicable federal, state and local laws.

Responsibilities
  • Communicates effectively via two-way radio, computer, email, telephone and verbal communication with team members, visitors, and patients and with local law enforcement agencies. Keeps leadership informed. Attends meetings, training assigned by leadership to maintain personal growth and development. Maintains care for department equipment and supplies.
  • Investigates, writes incident reports, and provides patient interventions and use of force reports with complete narrative. Takes custody and secures weapons until returned to owner. Provides daily activity logs before the end of shift. Is knowledgeable of security sensitive areas. Escorts team members, patients and visitors to parking areas. Locks/unlocks designated doors.
  • Monitors the conduct of hospital visitors. Confronts unauthorized people, reports safety concerns, fire hazards and security violations by patrolling the hospital facility.
  • Control traffic and enforce parking regulations. Maintains parking lot surveillance to assure safety, enforces applicable parking regulations, and initiates towing of vehicles. Writes and reports parking citation of illegally parked vehicles.
  • Provides immediate and prompt response to emergency codes. Assists with the management of individuals with behavioral issues and provides back up for law enforcement in those situations. Maintains a working knowledge of emergency codes and response procedures. Responds appropriately and in a timely manner to all emergency situations as well as activated security alarms. Performs other duties as assigned.
Other Information

Hired applicants will be required to obtain Certification in Non-Crisis Intervention (NCI), Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid as well as training to carry ASP baton, handcuffs, and OC pepper spray. Training and evaluation will be provided.

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current NC Driver's License
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lb on occasion as warranted by emergent circumstances.
  • Stands, walks, stoops, and bends regularly for entire shift. May be required to run or move quickly as warranted by emergent circumstances.
  • Must be able to practice effective body mechanics.
Preferred
  • Previous security, law enforcement or military experience.
