Job summary

Ochsner is seeking a security officer to protect patients, guests and employees across campus. This role enforces safety rules, conducts inspections, investigates incidents, and supports disaster preparedness.

Requirements include a High School diploma, 1 year in security or related field, BLS, valid LA driver's license, CPI and firearms training, IAHSS certification within 90 days, and completion of FTO within 60 days.

• Must be able to walk the property across multiple floors.

Responsibilities

• Enforces all safety and security rules on company property.
• Conducts routine inspections of on-site and off-site locations.
• Investigates accidents and other incidents and reports promptly.
• Performs opening/lockdown of buildings as approved by Administration.
• Participates in emergency response and drills.
• Maintains required annual certifications and training within timeframes.
• Adapts communication to the patient population and maintains privacy.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Education

• Required - High School diploma or equivalent

Work Experience

• Required - 1 year of experience in Security, law enforcement, or military

Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
• Valid driver's license in the state of practice and clean DMV report
• Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI), and firearms training
• International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Certification to be obtained within 90 days of promotion/hire
• Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of the FTO Program within the first 60 days of employment

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

• Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
• Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individual.
• This position is considered Team A Essential Personnel and must report for duty in the event of a disaster.
• Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
• Ability to continuously walk the company property including outside areas, interior areas, using stairwells in 11 floor plus structure.

Job Duties

• Enforces all company safety and security rules, regulations, and policies on company property.
• Conducts routine inspections of on-site and off-site locations of the company.
• Investigates accidents and other incidents which are assigned and reports all occurrences in a timely manner.
• Performs opening/lockdown of all buildings as approved by Administration and performs other safety and security related duties as assigned.
• Participates in emergency response and related preparedness drills.
• Maintains required annual certifications and completes training requirements within required time periods.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
• Other related duties as required.
