Job summary

Florence County is seeking a Security Officer to provide building and courtroom security, protecting judges, staff, jurors, and the public. You will perform routine law enforcement duties to enforce safety laws and safeguard people and property.

The role includes monitoring entrances, inspecting packages, escorting individuals, and reporting incidents. Applicants must have a high school diploma, SC CJ Academy training, Class III certification, and a valid SC driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma and Class III certification within one year of hire.
• Must maintain firearms proficiency.
• Valid state driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide security for Florence County buildings and courtrooms.
• Ensure all doors, windows and entry points are secured at close of business.
• Monitor entry/exit of visitors and employees; inspect packages and belongings.
• Escort visitors, prisoners, or officers as needed and report security incidents.
• Investigate security breaches and communicate findings up the chain of command.
• Complete and submit required security reports and maintain duties described.

The Security Officer provides building and courtroom security in order to protect the lives and welfare of County judges, attorneys, staff, jurors and the public. Performs general law enforcement duties to ensure the strict enforcement of state and local laws relating to public safety and welfare.

The Security Officer provides building and courtroom security in order to protect the lives and welfare of County judges, attorneys, staff, jurors and the public. Performs general law enforcement duties to ensure the strict enforcement of state and local laws relating to public safety and welfare.

Essential Functions

• Provides security in Florence County designated buildings.
• Ensures building, windows, and all doors are secured at the close of business and no unauthorized individuals remain in the building.
• Monitors entry and exit of visitors and employees.
• Inspects, electronically and physically, all packages, briefcases, handbags, etc.
• Checks buildings, courtrooms, and surrounding areas for theft, fire, and safety and for unusual or suspicious activities.
• Takes action to protect and safeguard people and property from any type of attack or damage.
• Provides information, direction, and assistance to the public in person or over the phone.
• Escorts visitors, prisoners, or officers to the appropriate destination when required.
• Investigates any security breaches and suspicious activities and reports these incidents up through the chain of command.
• Completes and submits required reports.
• Performs general law enforcement duties.
• Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals including the immediate supervisor, co-workers, attorneys, suspects, inmates, judges, court personnel, victims, medical personnel, other state and federal agencies, and the general public.

Non-Essential Functions

• Attends various meetings, trainings, and physical fitness activities.
• Performs all other related duties as required.

Qualifications: Education and Work Experience

• Requires a high school diploma, completion of required training and education at the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy and Class III certification, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and experience.
• Must be class III certified within one year of hire.
• Maintains required level of proficiency in the use of firearms and evasive action/driving skills.
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
