Job summary

Caltech's IPAC is seeking a Security and Network Engineer to support cybersecurity, compliance architecture, and high-performance network infrastructure powering NASA, NSF, and observatories. As part of the IPAC Support Group, you will shape cybersecurity posture while collaborating with network, systems, and database engineers to defend pipelines that connect the astronomical community to scientific data.

This on-site role in Pasadena requires a bachelor’s degree and 5+ years in network

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 5+ years in network administration and cybersecurity.
Strong experience with Arista and Cisco hardware and enterprise firewalls.
Familiarity with NIST RMF, SP 800-53, and NASA IT security directives.
Experience with security monitoring, logging, and threat mitigation.

Responsibilities

Coordinate NASA ATO compliance, documentation, and evidence.
Design and audit System Security Plans (SSPs) and POA&Ms.
Translate NIST and NASA guidelines into secure network architectures.
Manage firewall rules and security perimeters across the enterprise edge (Palo Alto).
Provide network consultation and backup support for Arista/Cisco environments.
Monitor threats with centralized logging and security alerts.
Perform other duties as assigned.
