Job summary

North Slope Borough — Health & Social Services seeks a security guard to protect premises and personnel, respond to alarms, and coordinate after-hours maintenance and communications. This role includes safeguarding confidential information and supporting emergency procedures.

The position may require non-traditional hours and on-call status; a high school diploma or GED, CPR/First Aid certification, and a clean background check are mandatory.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED or 12 years of education and work related experience.
• CPR and First Aid Certifications.
• Applicant must pass a criminal history background check.
• Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis.

Responsibilities

• Guard premises by patrolling and securing inside and outside areas.
• Respond to alarms, signals or emergency situations and follow reporting procedures.
• Answer phone calls and forward messages as needed.
• Handle and record after-hours maintenance calls.
• Perform custodial and maintenance tasks for the division.
• Report daily building problems and notify Maintenance staff.
• Respect clients by maintaining confidentiality, including HIPAA requirements.
• May work non-traditional hours including evenings, holidays and weekends.

Summary or Purpose

Guard premises to protect company, personal property and personnel against fire, theft, vandalism, illegal entry and other hazards, and refers maintenance and emergency calls.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Tour premises periodically, securing inside and outside areas, offices and storage doors.
• Ensure visitors sign in and out when visiting after hours.
• Answer phone calls and forward messages to appropriate departments.
• Handle and record after-hours maintenance calls.
• Respond immediately to alarms, signals or emergency situations and follow reporting procedures on emergency situations.
• Perform boiler readings, gauge checks and general equipment maintenance.
• Perform custodial and maintenance for the division.
• Report daily any building problems and advise department Maintenance staff via electronic mail.
• Respect clients by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality, including HIPAA requirements.
• Protect self, co-workers and consumers by following policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.
• May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.

Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required

• High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and work related experience.
• CPR and First Aid Certifications;
• Applicant must pass a criminal history background check conducted by the State of Alaska Background Check Unit;
• Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis.
