Job summary

North Slope Borough seeks a facilities maintenance worker to perform routine upkeep across buildings and grounds, including carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs. Responsibilities include inspecting systems, maintaining records, and ensuring safety standards are met.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid Alaska driver’s license, and experience in related trades. Certifications may be needed within probation, including safety and storm-response trainings.

Qualifications

• Two years of combined work experience in carpentry, mechanics, electrical, or plumbing.
• Valid Alaska Driver's License that meets Borough criteria.
• Prior ETP rotational shift work experience in Prudhoe Bay (Technical Training Center only)
• Mandatory to obtain multiple safety/technical certifications within probation (IS 100/200/700/800; NSTC; CPR/First Aid; OSHA 10)
• Ability to obtain site-specific training (RCRA, HAZWOPER, SPCC) within probationary period

• Perform janitorial duties on the grounds and in the facility.
• Comply with all safety standards and perform duties as assigned.

Maintain and repair HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical and security systems.

Maintain and repair physical structures as needed.

Use power tools and other departmental equipment to perform basic carpentry, electrical, mechanical, air conditioning, plumbing and/or other repairs and maintenance.

Inspect facilities, equipment and grounds for necessary repairs, improvements or preventative maintenance.

Maintain accurate records and inventory control/Receiving Reports.

Perform janitorial duties on the grounds and in the facility.

Perform duties as assigned by the work order(s) received.

Comply with all safety standards.

Perform other duties as assigned.

May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.

Respect clients by recognizing their rights and maintaining confidentiality, including HIPAA requirements.

Protect self, co-workers and consumers by following policies and procedures to prevent the spread of blood borne and/or airborne diseases.

Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies, and procedures.

Ability to pass an FBI fingerprint background check within 60 days of hire. (Police only)

• High school graduate or G.E.D/ or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
• Two years of combined work experience in carpentry, mechanics, electrical, or plumbing;
• Valid Alaska Drivers License that meets the North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
• Prior ETP rotational shift work experience in Prudhoe Bay (Technical Training Center only)
• Required to obtain Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 700 and IS 800; (Public Works)
• Obtain a Current NSTC Certification within the 6 months probationary period. (Technical Training Center only)
• Obtain a Current CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certifications within the 6 months probationary period. ( Public Works)
• Obtain an OSHA 10 Hour Certification within the 6 months probationary period. (Technical Training Center only).
• Ability to obtain site specific Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 265.16 within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain Small Quantity Handler training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § 273.16 within the probationary period.
• Ability to obtain site specific Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. 112.7 (f)(1)(2) and (3) within the probationary period.

Applicant must pass a criminal history background check conducted by the State of Alaska Background Check Unit;

Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis.
